Re: ?Mamas & Mamas to Be: Weekly Check-in? (so sorry - nearly missed this week!)

  • (1) What week are you in/how old is your LO? 33w 6d (just have to hang in there for 1-2 more weeks and we're good to go!)

    (2) How are you feeling? Any new milestones or news in the last week to share? Tired! Some days I feel like I could do this forever, but others (which are rapidly becoming more common lol) I feel very ready to be done. I've also started feeling very restless...it's kind of hard to describe. I have trouble sleeping (even when I'm really tired) and just want to pace around the house a lot. Strange.

    (3) Next appointment date?  Any big ultrasounds/other exciting stuff coming up? Tuesday I have two - one with the doc who is overseeing my GD (just a checkup) and one with the high risk specialist. I'm no longer seeing my OBGYN, as all care has now been officially transferred to the specialist since I'm so close to delivering.

    (4) Assuming all goes according to plan, how far in advance of your due date do you intend on starting maternity leave? Already there lol! Well, sort of. I finished work at the start of 30 weeks (to be honest, I probably should have done it 1-2 weeks earlier), but this entire month has been a combination of sick and vacation leave that I hoarded. My actual, official maternity leave begins April 5.

    (5) Has there been anything in your pregnancy that you didn't expect? Well...twins for a start lol. But yes, there have been a lot of things...the twins, the GD, the PUPPP. It's been harder - much harder - physically than I ever anticipated when we decided to TTC.

    (6) How do you/did you go about budgeting for the baby (saved ahead of time, spending as you go, etc.)? We saved a bit ahead of time, but have mostly just been spending as we go - we both have very secure jobs at a government institution, so we weren't concerned with a sudden income loss or anything like that.

  • (1) What week are you in/how old is your LO? 21 weeks, 6 days

    (2) How are you feeling? Any new milestones or news in the last week to share? I had a lot of breast soreness this past week, which I hadn't had since starting the 2nd tri.  Turns out I think I just needed new bras!  MH took me shopping for pants (also getting small) and new/bigger bras.  I get tired easily these days, but otherwise life is pretty good right now!  :)

    (3) Next appointment date?  Any big ultrasounds/other exciting stuff coming up? We just had an ultrasound this past week.....everything looked good, and we were able to re-confirm his boy-ness!

Other exciting things coming up are that ILs are coming to town next weekend, and are taking us furniture shopping for the nursery!  I'm so excited!   They said they wanted to furnish the nursery for us, but that we could choose whatever we wanted.  We've been pre-shopping, and I think we have it narrowed down to a few choices, which we'll decide for certain with them.

    (4) Assuming all goes according to plan, how far in advance of your due date do you intend on starting maternity leave? Well, I'll be off for about 6 weeks before my EDD, but not exactly by choice.  As a teacher, my school year ends the beginning of June, and I'm due end of July.  I would have preferred (in a perfect world!) to be due the end of June, just to maximize my maternity leave after the baby arrives (I'm taking the first 9 weeks of the school year off).  I kind of feel like I'll spend my summer just waiting around for him to arrive.  But I suppose there are worse ways to spend my time! :P

    (5) Has there been anything in your pregnancy that you didn't expect? Not really..... except that I didn't know that you can get cramps like menstrual cramps.  I've had them off-and-on through the pregnancy.  My OB isn't concerned, so I'm not, either, but I thought my cramps days were over for 9 months!  I seem to get them when I get a little dehydrated, so I try to keep a water bottle near all day long.

    (6) How do you/did you go about budgeting for the baby (saved ahead of time, spending as you go, etc.)?  We've saved a bit, but mostly spending as we go.  As mentioned earlier, MH's parents are helping a lot (he's an only child), as they are soooo excited to be grandparents, and we are happy to accept their help!  We're also trying to spread things out by starting now to buy what we need, even though it's still on the early side.  By spending a little each month, it doesn't seem like we're spending as much (even though we are, it doesn't hurt as much!) than if we waited until the the last two months to start shopping.

I tend to get cramps when I'm a bit dehydrated as well - I find that I also tend to get more Braxton Hicks contractions then, so staying well hydrated is definitely key! Yes

  • (1) What week are you in/how old is your LO?

    7 weeks 6 days...I cannot believe she'll be 8 weeks tomorrow!  WOW!

    (2) How are you feeling? Any new milestones or news in the last week to share?

Feeling good...weight loss has slowed down to 1 lb/week so I want to adjust what I am eating (too many carbs!) and start walking daily.  Just gotta figure out a routine, especially with heading back into work on the 30th.

Libby laughed for the first time yesterday.  Too cute!

    (3) Next appointment date?  Any big ultrasounds/other exciting stuff coming up?

Libby's 2 month appt. is in a couple of weeks.  We have a friend coming to visit in mid-April and my dad will be here in late April/early May.

Also, my summer travels for work have been canceled (was going to be gone 3.5 weeks in July) so I am thrilled that I don't have to be away from Libby that long and/or figure out how she can travel with me.

    (4) Assuming all goes according to plan, how far in advance of your due date do you intend on starting maternity leave?

I went out a week before my induction.  Next time I hope to be done with work at 36 or 37 weeks.  Seriously...it's SO worth figuring out how to do it.  Especially since next time I'll be dealing with a toddler too.

    (5) Has there been anything in your pregnancy that you didn't expect?

Gestational Diabetes for sure.  I knew I had risk factors, but because I didn't know really what causes it, I assumed that not packing on the lbs. during pg and eating healthfully and exercising would keep me in the clear.  I now know better.  Thankfully, it wasn't as horrible as I initially feared it would be.

    (6) How do you/did you go about budgeting for the baby (saved ahead of time, spending as you go, etc.)?

We basically paid off some debts that freed up cash on a monthly basis.  But we didn't have a baby fund or anything...we just spent as needed along the way.

    (7) Are there any questions that you'd like to see here in the future?

TTCers:  Which cycle are you on?  Where in the cycle are you?  What, if anything, are you doing to have success TTCing?

Mamas: How are you finding balance between work, baby time, being a wife, a mother, working out, your hobbies, etc?

I'm not.  I need to.  I hope there's some clues/tips posted here.  Most days I am thrilled if I've had a shower and managed to get dressed before 11 a.m.  Seriously.

Finally got Libby's newborn digital CD this past week...here's one of my favorite shots.  We've scheduled the 3 month session for April 26th and my dad will be in town so I hope to get a portrait of him and Libby and one of the three of us too.

  • (1) What week are you in/how old is your LO?

she's a bit over 4 months and 1 week now!

    (2) How are you feeling? Any new milestones or news in the last week to share?

I am feeling a lot better. MH and I had a good long talk and things have been better for about a week now which doesn't sound like much but it's more than he has been able to keep up with in the past.  Let's hope it continues this way :) My daily crying has ended so I've come to the conclusion that I was not depressed to where I needed meds, but just needed things in my life to change.  Sharing my situation with everyone and getting such constructive feedback was very helpful, so I'm glad I opened up about it instead of just sitting back, holding it in, and suffering. I'm also particularly glad to know that while not everyone's situation is as extreme, lots of moms go through this and some even shared with me privately that my post helped them feel not so alone...so I am glad I did it.

as far as miss A goes, her big milestone this last week was rolling from tummy to back. she rolled from back to tummy around 8 weeks but it took her this long to roll from tummy to back b/c she hates tummy time and spends most of it on our chests... at her 4 month check up our pedi kind of scolded us for this and told me to at least put her on her tummy on the floor for a few minutes each day and wouldn't you know it... after a day she rolled from tummy to back :) she has also gotten to the point where she can hit the kick n play board on her activity mat hard enough with her hands that she can make the music and lights go off :)

    (3) Next appointment date?  Any big ultrasounds/other exciting stuff coming up?

6 month check up and shots

i need to schedule an appt w/the urologist b/c that urethral cyst i got during PG has gotten smaller but is still there so I need to see what needs to be done now (draining it, surgery, etc)

both sets of grandparents will be visiting her in April.  my ILs in early April for Easter and then my parents will be here at the end of April.  my ILs have not seen her since she was 6 wks old and my parents not since she was 3 weeks so I know they will be thrilled to spend some time w/her (and I will be glad to have a little break from things to get the house in order)

    (4) Assuming all goes according to plan, how far in advance of your due date do you intend on starting maternity leave?

I planned to work up until the day I delivered but there was a scheduling mixup so I only worked through the end of week 38.  I delivered at 40w1d so I had about one week off before delivering.  I thought I would want to take off sooner but honestly I felt ok working part time up until the last minute.  I probably couldn't have worked full time but having that extra day or two off really helped me get through the week

    (5) Has there been anything in your pregnancy that you didn't expect?

I didn't know that babies got hiccups en utero! :)

I never knew about lightning crotch!

I also didn't expect to feel such pain in my hips and legs that we've described as the "I just went horseback riding yesterday" soreness

    (6) How do you/did you go about budgeting for the baby (saved ahead of time, spending as you go, etc.)?

we didn't have to budget for baby as much as we did for my unpaid maternity leave.  we had enough in savings to pay for baby stuff but i provide about 70% of our total income so we had to save up a lot for me to take the 12 weeks off post partum.  we just saved money where we could and also bought the majority of our baby stuff used.

    (7) Are there any questions that you'd like to see here in the future?

I think it would be nice to add this question every week: "what is one BR thing that you learned this week?" could be tips about PG, being a mom, etc.

Mamas: How are you finding balance between work, baby time, being a wife, a mother, working out, your hobbies, etc?

I don't think I have a really good balance b/c honestly, most of my time and attention goes to DD.  even though she would be content to play by herself for a lot of the day, I feel like I would be neglecting her so I try to stimulate her w/the toys, practice sitting, standing, etc. w/her to help promote her growth and development.  I still don't get a shower in every day and occasionally I get around to cooking...but I cook in batches so we eat a lot of leftovers. truthfully, i am more a baker than a cook so if i have some free time i am more inclined to bake something for my blog than cook a meal for us LOL

i have never been good about working out so definitely dont' find the time to do so post baby...but i consider carrying her around all day a decent workout ;) hopefully w/the weather warming up soon (after this snow subsides) i can take her for some walks during the day.

the only time i really get much "me time" is when i can get DH to take her for a little while but really that is never more than an hour or so, but still, it's important to have.  i think when she is older i will send her to "mommy's day out" programs so that i can have some more "me time" but for now it's all about her :) part of my problem is also that she is a leisurely eater so nursing sessions generally last about an hour on average and often 1.5 hrs...if she is being really efficient then it takes 20-30 min but that is more her dream feeds during the night and not daytime feeding. plus i feed her on demand, not on a set schedule, and sometime she wants to eat every 2 hours...so, most of my day is spent with her attached to my boob :)

honestly if I can brush my teeth twice, shower, and eat 2 square meals during the day, i consider it a pretty good day as far as taking care of myself :)

  • (1) What week are you in/how old is your LO?

    39 weeks on Monday

    (2) How are you feeling? Any new milestones or news in the last week to share?

Feeling good, just playing the waiting game.  DH and I have been spending lots of time together doing things we won't be able to enjoy for a while -- going walking, to the beach, eating out, watching movies, ballgames, etc.  It's been fun. Mostly I'm excited, but every now and then I still get nervous about labor.

    (3) Next appointment date?  Any big ultrasounds/other exciting stuff coming up?

    Tuesday

    (4) Assuming all goes according to plan, how far in advance of your due date do you intend on starting maternity leave?

I took off at 36 weeks.  At first, I felt like it was way too soon, but after I adjusted to the extra free time, I was glad for it.  There have been so many little things to take care of and I'm glad I can tackle those in a low-stress manner.  It's also been really nice to sleep a lot and have time to get outdoors and be active each day.

    (5) Has there been anything in your pregnancy that you didn't expect?

Mostly, I just learned that everyone's experience is so different.  I was lucky to avoid morning sickness, food cravings/sensitivities, and too much discomfort.  But I did have heavy spotting early on and now I get debilitating shooting pains in my butt as the baby drops and moves around.

    (6) How do you/did you go about budgeting for the baby (saved ahead of time, spending as you go, etc.)?

We've savers by nature, so we were prepared for the baby expenses and just spent as we went.  But we bought a lot of things second hand and tried to avoid anything unnecessary or extravagant,  I'm out of work for 6 months without pay, so we're trying very hard to live minimally these days.

    (7) Are there any questions that you'd like to see here in the future?

For better AND worse, how has your relationship with DH changed since pregnancy or the LO's arrival?  And how have you dealt with the difficult changes?

  • (1) What week are you in/how old is your LO?

Elyse will be 14 weeks on Monday.  I can't believe the time has flown by so fast.

    (2) How are you feeling? Any new milestones or news in the last week to share?

Elyse has started doing alot of social smiling, it's adorable.  She's on the verge of laughing!  She does a few giggles if Russ is being funny for her or if I rub her neck.  I can't wait for the first official laugh :)

Elyse went swimming for the first time last week - she loved it!! I'll post a picture below.

    (3) Next appointment date?  Any big ultrasounds/other exciting stuff coming up?

I 'think' she's gaining weight better now.  I think this because she's getting the little dimples on her tiny baby hands and getting more rolls in her legs.  I have to go see the pediatrician again in the next few weeks to have her checked.

My milk supply has come up alot.  I'm going to wean myself off of fenugreek and just stay on the domparidon until it runs out.  I've trained my body to think that Elyse has another feeding after 9:00pm so that I can build up a store.  I still can only get 2-4 ounces each night, but that's better than not having any for her like I did at 10 weeks.

We went on a date!!!  It was lovely!!  My mom came up and Russ and I went out for dinner, it was wonderful and strange to just be alone again.  We have our next date scheduled for March 27.

    (4) Assuming all goes according to plan, how far in advance of your due date do you intend on starting maternity leave?

I used vacation time time and sick time to be off 6 weeks prior to my due date.  My maternity leave started the day she was born.  I really enjoyed that time to get our house ready, visit friends and have dates with Russ.  I also made a TON of freezer food.  We're just finishing it now and I am forever grateful when we can just pull something healthy out of the freezer.  Even now I try to cook in batches so that we have food in the freezer.

    (5) Has there been anything in your pregnancy that you didn't expect?

I didn't expect my Arthritus to go into remission (thank goodness it did!!).  I didn't expect to go into labour at 26 weeks.  I also had no concept of what heart burn was like.  I'd only had it once after I had the flu a few years ago.  I despise heartburn.

    (6) How do you/did you go about budgeting for the baby (saved ahead of time, spending as you go, etc.)?

We spent as we went.  We also tried to buy second hand for alot of things.

    (7) Are there any questions that you'd like to see here in the future?

Mamas: How are you finding balance between work, baby time, being a wife, a mother, working out, your hobbies, etc?

I'm not sure if I'm finding a really good balance?  I hate having a messy house, so I have to actively remind myself that it doesn't matter if I have a spotless house.  My priorities are Elyse, making sure I eat and drink lots of water, working out then housework.  I need to start trying to be more of  a "wife" too.  I am missing my husband and our old relationship.  I feel like everything has changed and I don't have the emotional energy to put into us, or to make him feel special.  So I need to start making more effort in that regard.

  • Jaime, that is soooooo good to hear that you're feeling better! I was thinking about you this week and hoping that things were looking up. Smile
  • (1) What week are you in/how old is your LO?

    5w3d

    (2) How are you feeling? Any new milestones or news in the last week to share?

Feeling okay.  Had a rough night last night - Kaya is such a night owl!  She takes after us.  But I'm trying to get her to go to bed earlier so we can wake up earlier.  Well, last night I got into bed before midnight and nursed her off and on until 4 am!  Grr.  Then she didn't get up for the day until 2 pm.  Geez.

In happier news, she's starting to smile a lot and coo.  It's so cute!

I had my 6 week pp check up (at just over 5 weeks because I couldn't get an appt next week).  So I'm all clear now to return to normal life.

    (3) Next appointment date?  Any big ultrasounds/other exciting stuff coming up?

Kaya has her 2 month well baby visit and shots mid April.  Still trying to figure out an alternative vaccine schedule.

    (4) Assuming all goes according to plan, how far in advance of your due date do you intend on starting maternity leave?

I went out a week before my due date.  Good thing, because I had contractions for several days before I actually went into labor and working like that would have been rough.

    (5) Has there been anything in your pregnancy that you didn't expect?

I didn't expect the lightning crotch to be so painful.

    (6) How do you/did you go about budgeting for the baby (saved ahead of time, spending as you go, etc.)?

We have a lot saved up so we didn't really budget.  We just tried to look for deals on things that we knew we'd need and buy them when they were on sale.

    (7) Are there any questions that you'd like to see here in the future?

Mamas: How are you finding balance between work, baby time, being a wife, a mother, working out, your hobbies, etc?

I'm not, yet.  I think it's too early to even think about that.  Like others, I'm happy if I can get a shower in.  And I'd love to be out of bed before noon!  But I sleep as long as I can when she's sleeping because she doesn't really nap unless we wear her.  I can't wait until I can put her down long enough to workout!  Even if it's just to do a video at home.  Maybe I'll have to start leaving her home with B so I can go to the gym.

I did get to go out this week, though, for my friend's bachelorette party.  I had fun and drank for the first time since Kaya was born.  But I had to pump twice (good thing they got a hotel room).  I would have felt weird about it but everyone there was a NICU nurse so no big deal.  The whole night, though, I was texting B to see if they were okay.  I was so worried that she'd be crying and fussing the whole time I was gone.

  • (1) What week are you in/how old is your LO? Jack is 4w, 2d

    (2) How are you feeling? Any new milestones or news in the last week to share?Jack has just started taking a bottle.  He had no difficulties/confusion with the Born Free but then we tried a playtex drop-in the next night and he was totally confused and the nipple seemed to be going way to fast so he kept getting too much in his mouth to swallow.  So then we went back to the Born Free and he showed no trouble.  So I guess it's pretty easy to know when something isn't working.  Still not going to open the big box of Born Free for another week or so.  I was confused about heating so DH just tried it cold and he took it so as long as he continues not to mind I'm glad we can skip that step.

I just had a baby shower today - so fun.  I'll post a picture of the cute outfit I dressed him in.  It was fun, now that I'm not a team green-er everyone bought cute boy stuff (mostly clothes) and some neat pro sports gear for him :)

    (3) Next appointment date?  Any big ultrasounds/other exciting stuff coming up? nothing coming up

    (4) Assuming all goes according to plan, how far in advance of your due date do you intend on starting maternity leave? I wanted to work up to due date but had to quit going into the office at about 37.5 weeks because of high blood pressure.  They counted it as working from home if I checked my e-mail so I didn't start actual leave until he was born (4 days before EDD).  I had so many appointments - as part of my "deal" with the MWs to stall an induction - after the high blood pressure scare that I really could not have worked a regular schedule but I was bored (especially since I couldn't really do stuff - I was suppose to take it easy, rest on my side).

    (5) Has there been anything in your pregnancy that you didn't expect? like pp I liked learning how different everyone's experiences were.

    (6) How do you/did you go about budgeting for the baby (saved ahead of time, spending as you go, etc.)? didn't really budget/save - just spend as we go.  We were blessed with so many gifts, we didn't really buy much ourselves - will need to start buying cloths once he's in the 6ish month size.  We did have to make a budget for the 6 weeks of unpaid leave I will be taking. Cloth diapers and breast feeding have worked out so we don't have any ongoing increase in costs for disposables/formula.

We did just set up a college fund for Jack now that we got his SSN.  He was given some money after he was born (his great grandpa (the first JAK) wrote a really nice note and said the money was for his education and hopes he will consider following the first 3 JAKs into the legal profession... so touching!).  I felt strange putting it our accounts so we had to quickly open an education savings account and we look forward to adding to that  :)

Mamas: How are you finding balance between work, baby time, being a wife, a mother, working out, your hobbies, etc? haven't really worked on a balance yet.  Luckily my grandma comes over to clean a couple of days a week and Jack is pretty mellow, I have no problem finding time to shower, etc while he naps.  I try to cook dinner, but if he sleeps at 2 or whatever I cook then rather than wait.  I'm sure it will be a shock once I go back to work!!  And I do need to start working out.  The plan is to work out in the evenings now that DH can give him a bottle - I can start next week.

Still trying to figure out an alternative vaccine schedule.

what do you think you are planning?  The ped gave me a schedule that looks pretty much like the monthly vax plan in the Dr. Sears book... I read a lot about it before he was born but now that he's here I'm not motivated to make decisions for some reason.  ACK, need to figure this out!

  • Oh my gosh - Jack is stinkin cute in his big boy outfit!  It's funny how when you put them in something other than a sleeper they look so much older.

honestly if I can brush my teeth twice, shower, and eat 2 square meals during the day, i consider it a pretty good day as far as taking care of myself :)

    THIS! Hahahaha.

J, do they have Stroller Strides near you? I started going to those 3x/week out here and it was a great workout, great opp to hang with other moms, great daily outing with Alexa. Of course now that I am at work, I can't go anymore... So no working out for me anymore, not yet!

  • Sorry my picture is so huge!  How can I make it smaller?
  • (1) What week are you in/how old is your LO?  He's 4 months and 2 weeks old!

    (2) How are you feeling? Any new milestones or news in the last week to share?   I'm better - most of my issues are under control (except being tired - but that's a constant anymore).  He still has reflux issues and is only sleeping 4 hrs at a time, but over the weekend he gave us 2 good 5+ hour stretches, so that was nice!  He's also been practicing sitting up and loves standing in his exersaucer.

    (3) Next appointment date?  Any big ultrasounds/other exciting stuff coming up?  6 month appt for well check up in May

    (4) Assuming all goes according to plan, how far in advance of your due date do you intend on starting maternity leave? My plan was to work up until I delivered, which I did.

    (5) Has there been anything in your pregnancy that you didn't expect?  tons - but most was explained in the books I read - Girlfriend's Guide was a big help!

    (6) How do you/did you go about budgeting for the baby (saved ahead of time, spending as you go, etc.)?  I put a chunk of money away (from tax refund) that I keep drawing from for whatever I need that I can't pay for from regular paychecks.  We're still adjusting to what he needs and when.

One item to mention here is to not forget to plan for things like your electric bill going up!  Mine has increased about $50/month since he's been born!

Mamas: How are you finding balance between work, baby time, being a wife, a mother, working out, your hobbies, etc?  Not sure if I'm balancing - I go to work, but as soon as I get home, it's all about baby.  Since the weather started getting nicer this week, I started taking him for walks when I got home - so at least this is some exercise for me.  With this rain though, I might be forced to go to the mall for that.

  • (1) What week are you in/how old is your LO?  27w5d

    (2) How are you feeling? Any new milestones or news in the last week to share?   getting really tired but I am only sleeping in few hour incruments b/c I wake up in pain.  I think I have had my first BH's and my boobs regularly leak at night now.

We had a rainy weekend weekend befoer last and got furniture moved around in our room and set up Mason's corner.

    (3) Next appointment date?  Any big ultrasounds/other exciting stuff coming up?  go tomorrow for my GD check

    (4) Assuming all goes according to plan, how far in advance of your due date do you intend on starting maternity leave? due to finances I need to work as long as possible.

    (5) Has there been anything in your pregnancy that you didn't expect?  leaky boobs

    (6) How do you/did you go about budgeting for the baby (saved ahead of time, spending as you go, etc.)?  we have saved some and will be saving part of our refund this year, but we are buying as we find stuff on sale or good deals on CL and second hand

  • (1) What week are you in/how old is your LO? 15 weeks

    (2) How are you feeling? Any new milestones or news in the last week to share? still a little nauseous & the occasional pukiness, but other than that okay

    (3) Next appointment date?  Any big ultrasounds/other exciting stuff coming up? april 1, but I think it is just another check up.  Not another ultrasound until May

    (4) Assuming all goes according to plan, how far in advance of your due date do you intend on starting maternity leave? I want to save all of my FMLA for after the baby is here so hopefully i can work right up to delivery.  I would love to have a little time off, but more so I want the time after baby arrives

    (5) Has there been anything in your pregnancy that you didn't expect? I didn't think I would be as sick as I was.  no one in my family had morning sickness expect me!  I am sure there are more surprises in store, but that is all for now.

    (6) How do you/did you go about budgeting for the baby (saved ahead of time, spending as you go, etc.)?   we've tried to save & I am sure we will spend as we go.  hopefully since I am the youngest in the family, we will get lots of hand me downs!

  • Lisa, can you change my EDD to 10.29.10?  Thanks!

    (1) What week are you in/how old is your LO?  8w3d

    (2) How are you feeling? Any new milestones or news in the last week to share? Nausea/queasiness have been a little better lately.  Still bloated and feeling a bit tired.  I've also been having some spotting every few days, but nothing to cause alarm.

    (3) Next appointment date?  Any big ultrasounds/other exciting stuff coming up?  We had our 3rd u/s today!  Baby is still measuring right on track with my O date.  We got to see Baby move!  Next u/s is in 2 weeks (April 5th).  You can see the head, arms and legs in this photo.  Although it's too early to be sure, my doctor said she'd put money down that we're having a boy.  We shall see.

    (4) Assuming all goes according to plan, how far in advance of your due date do you intend on starting maternity leave?  Ideally, I'd like to keep working for as long as possible since I will be leave without pay for my entire absence.  It's still so early, though.  We'll see how long I can last!

    (5) Has there been anything in your pregnancy that you didn't expect?  The amount of bloating and gas caught me by surprise.  I'm also a lot more distracted than I thought I'd be.  I find it really difficult to focus on anything at work.

    (6) How do you/did you go about budgeting for the baby (saved ahead of time, spending as you go, etc.)?  We're definitely saving up as much as we can right now since I'll be leave without pay for a while after baby is born.  I really am clueless when it comes to estimating how much baby stuff will cost.  Yikes!  :/
