am I missing something- swiffer wet jet...

so I bought one because people were raving how great it was to clean floors...I used it in my kitchen and it cleaned the floor but I didnt feel like it was amazing or anything- I could have done the same thing with a rag and soapy water...

am I missing something?

Re: am I missing something- swiffer wet jet...

  • I like it better than a mop because you throw away the pad and don't have a stinky mop lying around with germs on it.  What I really want is one of those steam mops.  My mom got one and I love hers, it disinfects and cleans without using any chemicals.  Then you just wash the pad in the washer.

  • DH bought one a while back and I said the same thing.  I didn't see any difference in using that over the regular wet Swiffer pads.  It actually seems to take longer with the wet jet.
  • Check the chemicals in the wet jet.  Rumor has it that it can be harmful if ingested so make sure your pets don't lick the floor after you mop.
  • I never use mine.  K says the cleaner leaves a 'film' on the floor. A regular mop seems to work just fine for me.

  • The fact that you don't have to get down on the floor and wash it with a rag and soapy water! Its just so easy..

This exactly.  But we use something called Bona instead of Swiffer (although I've had experience with it and I like it too - not sure about a film on the floor though) which we really like.  I think it's supposed to be better than the Swiffer.  We use it more for spot cleaning than regular deep cleaning.  Sorry you are disappointed with it.

This is an old rumor and not true.. Obviously you don't want to put it in your animals drinking water.. but it won't hurt them on the floor.

I know Bona is what Robin rec's for wood flooring.  It doesn't leave the film that other cleaners leave.

  • I don't like them at all.  They make my floors feel like there is a film on them.  I really hate that, especially when I have a crawling tot around (my niece).  I really want a steam mop!
  • I had one and hated it. And, even though it's supposedly safe for pets, my dog had an obsession about licking and I didn't want to test fate. I have the Shark steam mop and LOVE it. It really cleans the floor, and I don't have to worry about a bucket and mop.

We have the Bona for our hardwoods, too. They also make a cleaner for laminates/tile that is eco-friendly and nontoxic.

  • I don't like ours that much either.  DH uses it, but I just use a regular mop in the kitchen.  And hands and knees for the bathrooms since they are small and too many little spots a mop doesn't reach anyway.
