My dog is balding

She must be, there's no way the word "shedding" describes the amount of hair coming off her right now. She doesn't even have that much hair to begin with! I bathed her yesterday and after she was all clean I was just running my hand down her back trying to squeegie off some of the water and with one pass my hand looked like it had a fuzzy glove on it. I hope she'll be done soon!

Re: My dog is balding

  • Rudy is shedding like crazy as well!  He has a bath in his future tonight and then some major furminating tomorrow.  Our vaccuum can't seem to keep up with all of the tumble-weeds floating around our house.  Ugh!
  • It's kind of weird, the furminator doesn't work very well on Squirt. We can get way more off our cats than we can her. Her top coat is kind of coarse and I guess the combs of the furminator are too small to catch it, though it does work a little better if her fur is wet. It only gets the finer hair of her undercoat, but she only has an undercoat on her back between her shoulder blades and above her tail.
  • We can't use the furminator on Rudy when he is wet.  It seems to irritate his skin, which he doesn't like at all.  But he loves it once his hair is dry.  My parent's lab has a double coat (talk about hair!) and it works great on her, but I could see how it may not be as effective on a normal lab's coat.  Hopefully the spring shedding will be overwith in a few weeks!
  • Bruno has been the same way lately. I almost feel like I need to run the vacuum over him as well as the floors.
  • Rusty's shedding hasn't starting yet, but I am not looking forward to it.  It comes off in big chunks.  Eww.  We haven't had luck with the Furminator on him, even though he has a double coat, it just kind of tugs at his fur & he hates it.  We get by a lot better with a regular shedding blade.
  • Ugh!  Charlie is the same way.  He's losing huge clumps of hair that look like cotton balls.  Our furminator is MIA, but I'm on a mission to find it when I get home from work tonight.
  • We bought this thing called a "Zoom Groom" that does a better job of pulling off hair than anything else we've tried. My pup's shedding a lot right now too, I guess with the warmer weather they're shedding their winter coats!
