am I missing something- swiffer wet jet...
so I bought one because people were raving how great it was to clean floors...I used it in my kitchen and it cleaned the floor but I didnt feel like it was amazing or anything- I could have done the same thing with a rag and soapy water...
am I missing something?

This exactly. But we use something called Bona instead of Swiffer (although I've had experience with it and I like it too - not sure about a film on the floor though) which we really like. I think it's supposed to be better than the Swiffer. We use it more for spot cleaning than regular deep cleaning. Sorry you are disappointed with it.
This is an old rumor and not true.. Obviously you don't want to put it in your animals drinking water.. but it won't hurt them on the floor.

I know Bona is what Robin rec's for wood flooring. It doesn't leave the film that other cleaners leave.
damn, and i though i had a way to off B..j/k (easy PETA people..)
I had one and hated it. And, even though it's supposedly safe for pets, my dog had an obsession about licking and I didn't want to test fate. I have the Shark steam mop and LOVE it. It really cleans the floor, and I don't have to worry about a bucket and mop.
We have the Bona for our hardwoods, too. They also make a cleaner for laminates/tile that is eco-friendly and nontoxic.
