Just got back from my doctor's appt

I think it was last week that I posted my fears about my endo returning.  Well, my doctor's appt was this morning.  She was wonderful (as always).  She took 3 vials of blood to run some different tests (mainly checking vitamin and thyroid levels).  She seems to think that everything is GI related (not endo related).  I had that feeling but I think the local GI doctors are idiots (at my last visit their advice was to eat more yogurt).  She agrees.  So I am being referred to a new GI doctor in Charlotte which probably means a repeat colonoscopy but if it means answers I will take it.  She really thinks the doctors here missed something.  If we can figure out what is causing the problems and know that endo has not returned, I will be one happy camper!  Thanks for you continued support and encouragement!  You ladies just don't know how much it means to me!  (((group hug)))

Re: Just got back from my doctor's appt

  • Great News! (well not that your previous GI Doctors missed the boat, or that you have to have another colonoscopy, but that it doesn't seem to be endo related!)

    Enjoy the beautiful sunshine!

  • I'm glad to hear it isn't the endo causing problems, but I completely understand how frustrating it is to have gastro's that miss something or give you a standard line.

I'm not exactly sure what your symptoms are and if this would even apply, but you might want to double check the side effects on the meds you are on (if any).  I was misdiagnosed for over 10 years and almost died from a ruptured bowel.  After undergoing treatment for IBS and Crohn's disease and 4 gastro's later, they finally figured out I was having reactions to high levels of estrogen coming from my BC.  I had gastro issues, migraines and my gall bladder stopped working.  Once I was switch to a progesterone based BC, everything went away within 48 hours- amazing!  Feel free to PM me if you want any more info.  But I hope your new doc is able to figure it out and get you feeling better soon!

ETA:  In my experience if you had your colonoscopy within 6 months to a year, they shouldn't make you retake it.  Normally they take enough pictures and should put enough info in the report to know if anything was abnormal.  So hopefully you won't have to go back through that.  Although that test is much better than the Upper GI, in my opinion.

  • Fingers crossed that it's GI related and you can get on some helpful treatment, I know it must be so frustrating to feel poorly all the time.
  • I'm glad your doctor thinks it's GI related and not endo related!  I hope the new doctors will be able to give you a better insight as to what is going on!

Thanks for the info!  We went through my whole list of meds just to check side effects.   I don't think its hormone related since they took my ovaries during my hyst and I'm on very low dose HRT.

My colonoscopy was almost 5 years ago so I know I will have to retake it (which I figured would happen even if I didn't switch doctors).  During my first colon. I also had an upper GI done so thankfully I was asleep for that.  Last year I had to have a pelvic CT scan scan done so I had to drink that barium crap (which is absolutely dreadful) so I would much rather have a colonoscopy than to go through that again (which is sad to say!).  But thanks so much for sharing your experience!  I may have some more questions for you later!
