Rock-n-Voll:
Our weekend was pretty good. Friday we stayed in and watched a movie. Saturday I got up relatively early to play in a volleyball tournament (made it to the finals and then lost), then met friends at a bar that night. Yesterday DH and I played in our semi-regular Sunday night volleyball group. I had a couple of random "injuries" last night, like hurting my toe somehow and losing my voice.
I'm playing v-ball again tonight so we'll see if my body can withstand three days in a row of running, jumping, and hitting!
Rock, did you play in HS or college? I think its great that you're such an avid player, I wish I'd kept up with swimming and running better, maybe even done a triathlon.
I wanted to answer your question and am sorry I didn't get to it sooner! It's been tougher to get on the boards with the new job and all.
So anyway, I started playing volleyball in HS and played intramurals in college (it's tough to play varsity when you're 5'1"
). DH and I both play pretty competitively, which is great because it's something we can do together.
If you still like swimming and running, then I say go train for a triathlon! It's not too late, I know lots of people who kind of just decided to pick it up one day (which, to me, is a little crazy but I don't run, bike or swim!). You could train with an organization like Team in Training and raise money for the Leukemia & Lymphoma Society at the same time.

Re: Buckeye, re: your volleyball question the other day
Hey, smal! Thanks for asking, and it's really nice to "see" you!
The job is going all right. I'm still sort of in settling in/training mode that will be coming to an end soon, which is just as well as I want to get started on the actual job. The pluses are that that it seems like a decent environment and the pay is good, the minus is that the work isn't all that interesting. A girl's gotta do what a girl's gotta do to pay the bills though, and I'm grateful to be done with job hunting!
Rock! Thanks for responding, I think I'm going to try to get back into swimming once we've decided where we'll be after May, but will try to get back into running (or some cardio) in the meantime. Training with an organization sounds appealing too.
I think its great that you and your DH both enjoy playing volleyball competitively, its great that you both share that interest. We try to run together, but DH's ankle pops when he runs and it just weirds me out! Maybe I'll eventually get over it.
Also, I'm glad your job seems to be going well, and that you're able to get into the "real" work soon after the training period!
I saw something in passing a few weeks about you moving? When, why, where?
Probably sometime this summer after I graduate, grad school was our primary motivation for moving to Boston, and although we've loved it, we're willing to move for great jobs, but would stay here if something came up (but I don't know if it will).
We're hoping for somewhere a bit less expensive, but that said, California is in the mix of potential jobs/location, which isn't the cheapest COL!
Aww, sadness. We really must try to meet before you leave; I need to put a face and personality to the screen name! What kinds of jobs are you both looking for? If you find yourselves seriously considering NorCal and have any questions, feel free to page me. I lived in the SF Bay Area for 6 years and loved it, but yes the COL is insanely high.
