Name Change

I need to change my name since I got married last October and was wondering if there was a website or easy tool to help you step by step and all the things you need to do. Anyone know a good way to do this? Thanks! :)

Re: Name Change

  • I'd start with social security, as you'll likely need that to get your new driver's license (I was able to do both in one day, going to SS first and taking that paperwork to the DMV, even though I didn't have the new SS card yet). My best advice is to keep a list of every place you need to change your name and cross them off as its done.

If you haven't already, request an extra copy or two of your license--some places may require you to send it to them (as in passport changes). They will send it back, but if you only have one copy you'll be stalled in the process while it's gone.

  • I can't find the exact website I used when I was changing my name.. but the below helps

I agree with pp that you should make a list of all of the items in your maiden name - and then start calling them 1 by 1. It can be a pretty long process depending on what informaiton they may need from you...

Guys have no idea how easy they have it; but they are well worth it :P

  • It really wasn't as difficult as it might seem!  you just got to the social security office, then the DMV, and then you start calling companies and visiting your banks and such.
