Terminology ? from Andrea's post
Andrea, thanks for that web site you posted. I've been looking for something like that because I don't understand all the details.
Can anyone explain to me exactly what this means?
"A new excise tax on high-premium insurance plans, equal to 40% of premiums paid on plans costing more than $27,500 annually for a family, starting in 2018."
It's from the web site Andrea posted, on how we will pay for everything. What is the premium?
Re: Terminology ? from Andrea's post
You're welcome.
I'm still trying to read more about this part. What I do know is that it's an employer paid tax*
Basically, employers have to pay the tax on any amount over that $27,500. So - if they're going to offer a plan that costs $50,000 in premiums, they'd have to pay an additional tax of $9,000 (($50,000-$27,500)*40%).
*Though that's not to say that they can't pass the cost on to employees in other ways.

Ok, thanks. I've been trying to figure out the impact to me. Time will tell if/how that will get passed down to employees...

There is a ton of information and the side-by-side comparison is great. It's much like the other think I posted, but in this case you can select specific topics and it goes a little more in depth. It looks like its possible for the limits on the high premium plans to change over time.
