What happens at a Teacher Job Fair
I'm going to a teacher job fair on April 10th. What all happens at one? Do you just go around talking to people? I've never been to any type of job fair before. I'm guessing dress professionally?
TIA!
I'm moving to Austin!!!! AHHHH! Sorry, still super excited!
Re: What happens at a Teacher Job Fair
No clue about the job thing but..... Woot woot!! Movin' to Austin!!
Yeah, that's what this one requires too.
I was wondering about that! I would LOVE that. I'm qualified for 8-12 math which is a high need area everywhere. With my current job I wasn't even certified, just called interested and was hired within the hour and they gave me an emergency teaching certificate. I've since passed my content exam and all that.
They said they're hiring math and science teachers right now for next year. I'm keeping my fingers crossed.
See you all in JUNE!!!!
YGM!
are you going to a mass job fair where many districts are represented or a specific district's fair?
as a pp suggested, be prepared to be interviewed on the spot. have many copies of your resume and any other materials you plan to hand out ready to go.
my experience (many moons ago) with mass job fairs was that sometimes districts seem to be there and just collecting resumes while others are interviewing and looking to hire right then and there.
from what i know from my own district, at this point, most schools are just learning what vacancies, transfers, etc., they will have for next year. so don't be discouraged if you're not getting offers right now. positions will be opening up from now until the first day of school (and sometimes after!), so you may be in the back of a principal's mind while he or she is thinking about filling positions but just not hear from them quite yet. or maybe you will. who knows!
good luck!
It's just one district. They said on their website that they are actually hiring high school math and science teachers as of now for next fall. We're high demand.
