Ohio SC sides with McCain-Palin on absentee voter apps

There was a big brouhaha over an absentee voter application from the McCain campaign that included an extra "check here if you're a qualified elector" box.  Ohio Sec. of State Jennifer Brunner wanted them to be tossed out and told election boards to do so.  Ohio Supreme Court said they should be processed.  YAY!

This is not the same as the "early voter" mess where people can fraudulently register and vote at the same time, thus ensuring piles of possibly fraudulent votes to be mixed in with the general public. "Oopsie, we messed up. Now the votes are all mixed together, we can't trace them back, so we get to count all of them."  That is my theory of what will happen.

There are stellar articles in National Review about early voting problems and the Obama campaign's interesting response to college students.  Authors are Murdock and Krauss.

  • YAY!

You want to talk mess?  Iowa is trying out the same day voter registration too.  It doesn't take a rocket scientist to see what's wrong with this.  I mean for God Sakes, you don't even have to show ID.

  • That's good news!

I've been trying to keep up with Michigan's Secretary of State's war on Acorn's fraudulent voter registrations. I can't find too much about the investigations. This week is the last week we can register.

  • I just hope Ohio gets me my absentee ballot in time.

Just want to point out that the "no ID" line is inaccurate, at least in Ohio.

Ohio's same day voter registration drive that's happening right now is based on absentee ballots.

In order to apply for an absentee ballot, you need to provide one of these forms of identification:

    Your Ohio driver?s license number

    OR

The last four digits of your social security number

    OR

Copy of a current and valid photo identification, military identification or a current (within the last 12 months) utility bill, bank statement, government check, paycheck or other government document that shows your name and address.

Since they're registering and voting AT THE SAME TIME, they are showing just as much ID as they would normally need to vote there.

Sorry to be so cranky, but I'm getting tired of people claiming, "oh the voter fraud, the voter fraud, whatever will we do without IDs" when in fact, we ARE requiring IDs for this round of voting.  Further, Secretary of State Brunner has determined that all of these early voting ballots will be kept separate from the rest of the ballots and will be individually verified before they are counted, contrary to Fox News' belief Confused

    /rant over.

p.s.  That last bit there wasn't a dig on you ChelleA; it was a dig on Fox News' incompetence on this issue.
