This may be a long shot but I have been thinking about it for the last few weeks and Robyn's girls night post made me decide to try. I was wondering if anyone in the area would like to start a book club or goes to one that would be open to a new member? I think it would be a fun way to get to know people as well as help me through my 100 books! Let me know if anyone is interested in starting one or has one that is open to new people. I know some groups are selective in that way, which I understand.
Re: Book Club?
What kinds of books does everyone like?
Personally, I stick with light, funny or romance books. With everything else going on in my life, I tend to read books that don't require a huge amount of concentration.
But, I'm always up for broadening my horizons!
My book club is composed of people that read like Lori and I, and those that like the "harder" read. Each month one person provides 2-3 books and we all vote. In the event of a close vote or tie, we choose which one we prefer and most of us read both. Now we've been selecting the winner as the main book and providing an easier read as the "bonus" book.
Recent books: The Help, Water for Elephants, The Actor and the Housewife, The Hunger Games and the 2nd book Chasing Fire, Vanishing Acts. This month is The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo with Chasing Fire as the bonus for those of us that didn't run out and get it the day after finishing The Hunger Games the previous month.
I'd always thought of starting an IE book club but living in OC would mean that I could only make if you guys met on the weekends.
Then I'm already a part of a book club with some ladies in my neighborhood and I just joined another one that H's friend's gf set up (my first meeting with that one is Apr 1st) so I'm not sure I can commit to another one esp so far from me =/.
