I'm a PW. Help with Mom's bday.

Next Friday the four of us (mom, dad, DH and I) are driving to NY for my Gma's memorial service.  Friday is my Mom's bday.  Any ideas on something nice I could do for her?  I feel so bad that's how she spending her bday weekend.  Money is limited.

  • I'm sorry you guys have to do something so sad on her bday.  :(

My gift go-to when I can't think of one great thing and/or when money is low is a gift basket.  Maybe you could fill it with some good snacks (I like to do homemade mini-loaves of banana bread or zucchini bread), and a bottle of wine or some drink that she likes.  It would be sweet, thoughtful, inexpensive, and something she could even start enjoying during the drive up there - except for the wine, that is.

  • Maybe just attempt for some one on one time? Even if it's window shopping and coffee or a pedicure?

I'd think more in terms of gesture and bonding as a mother/daughter.

  • I really like both pp's ideas. I know there is nothing my mom enjoys more than when the whole family gets together and has an nice (not expensive, necessarily) meal together and just spends time together.

If you want to do something on top of that, then I think the previous replies are great ideas! (I'm partial to the pedicure idea! Wink)

  • I agree I think the pedi sounds like a great idea :-)
  • Great ideas! The pedi idea reminded me, I have a gift certificate for a couples massage and DH doesn't want to go. The spa is on the way so I'm going to see if I can get appointments for Friday morning. My Dad and DH can go get breakfast or something. I think I'll put together a basket with goodies for the ride. I called my aunt and we're all going to dinner at Lake Ontario to celebrate. Then I'll take her for a frozen custard (her favorite thing to do in Rochester is go to the lake and get one).
  • That all sounds like a wonderful birthday gift!  You'll definitely be on her happy list after all of that. :)
