My First Cruise... Help!

My friend Kimber and I are going on a cruise together next week (we leave MONDAY!!!).  Neither of us have ever been on a cruise before so we have a few questions for any of you who have cruised a lot:

1) Should we bring tip money or are tips not accepted like at Sandals?

2) If you don't pay for the soda plan or whatever are you only allowed water for free?

3) How should we pack for a 4-day Carnival Cruise going from SD to Catalina to Ensenada this time of the year?  It's pretty warm right now on land, but I don't have any concept of what that means for a cruise ship.  Also do we need lots of formal wear?

We're both really excited but completely cruise-clueless!

Re: My First Cruise... Help!

  • 1. We tipped our waiters and fav bartenders and room stewards at the end of the cruise.

    2. You can drink soda you just have to pay everytime you drink it. With the soda card you get unlimited.

3.I would pack light sweaters/jackets as it gets cool on deck at night.

1.) We did tip because we had great people but it's not necessary and is included.

2.) Water and ice tea where both complimentary on my ship (Carnival Miracle).

3.) I'd bring a sweater for walking the deck at night. You are supposed to dress up every night for dinner so a nice dress for each night is receommended.

On a side note... there is a place in Enseneda which is FANTASTIC. It's called Papas and beers and it's so much fun. I found their Web site but it's totlaly in Spanish. www.papasandbeer.com

  • also check the cruiseline website they should have a list of what to bring and what not to bring and all that. I know Royal Caribbean's website has a whole helpful list of things

its of course different for every cruiseline i'm sure

    1. We were charged a fee per day for tips, like 10 a day or so? But we gave extra to the guy that cleaned our room because he was great 2. Water, tea, and juices. You can bring 2 liters of soda and bottled water. I know people that mixed their alcohol in the cokes and put clear liquors in the water bottles so as not to spend too much on the boat 3. I brought a light jacket for the boat and 1 nice dress and the regular vacation clothes and it was plenty for a weeks cruise.
