Wellsboro...is it one of those nice

places to visit, wouldn't want to live there?   It seems lovely, but remote.  Note, we have lived in Northern Michigan and a long winter is not something I long to return to...

DH has been offered a management job there and since neither of us have ever visited anywhere close by, looking for any information.

TIA.

Re: Wellsboro...is it one of those nice

  • My grandparents lived there.  It is really beautiful...there is a cute little downtown.  Home of the PA Grand Canyon!  There is quite a large Mennonite population there as well.  Mansfield is fairly close, which I believe has a little more going on (university at least!).  It is a bit of a trek to a mall, etc, so it depends how willing you are to travel for that kind of stuff.  The winters are cold, but I wouldn't say the snowfall is too crazy (sure there may be a big snowstorm here and there).  You'll have to take what I say with a grain of salt because I haven't been to the area since high school (about 8/9 years ago) as my grandparents have since passed away.

  • I went to college up there for 1 semester, and then I transferred back to this area. It is very beautiful up there, but it is pretty remote and not a place I'd want to live at all, and I prefer to live in the country.

  • My parents have a cabin about 20 minutes outside of Wellsboro. Wellsboro is a really cute, quaint and pretty town. I love going up there every year for the Victorian Christmas festival they host. About 40 minutes down route 6 is a small town called Galeton, they put on a really great fireworks display for the fourth. That said, I wouldn?t want to live there, it is kind of remote. But if that is what you are used to you may like it.  Maybe you could live south of Wellsboro and be a little closer to Williamsport, which has some more going on and there is the Lycoming mall.

  •  I often thought to myself what it would be like to live up there. They have really cute homes up there. I guess it just depends on what you are comfortable with. Could you go visit there and see what you think before you commit? I always love to get away there. It might be a nice change of pace for you.

Rosepks- Where exactly is your parents cabin? DH's family's cabin is right along route 6 (20 minutes west of Wellsboro) going towards Galeton.

  • They are in the direction of Galeton as well, right near Watrous. It is right on the other side of the road from the Pine Creek. We used to always walk down and float in the creek on inner tubes.
