XP: Gardens of Park Hills or The Grand?

My younger sister is considering both locations for her reception in August of 2011, and I wanted to know if anyone had any feedback on those locations -- your own wedding, weddings you've attended -- anything? She's from OOT, so she's trying to figure out which halls to visit when she's in town in a few weeks.

 TIA!

  • The Grand is really pretty but I haven't been to a reception there.  It's near the Madison, isn't it?  My sister booked the Madison for this November.  Her quote is WAY lower than what they gave me when I was looking in 2006/7.  I think they're hurting for bookings so your sister could get a deal.  plus I wonder if the Grand is competing for customers.

  • I looked into the Grand for my wedding last year and was a little surprised at their pricing. It was really expensive. I am not sure how much that has changed since the economy has slumped, however, it was way more expensive for the basic needs. A little side note, the entrance to the grand is right next to club venus and a biker bar, tend to get some characters from a strip club and a biker bar outside your wedding reception.  I have not looked at the Gardens, but it looked nice.
  • A good friend of mine used the Gardens of Park Hills back in October '06 and at that time everything was great.  The place looked nice and the food was really good.  I don't know how her personal experiences with them were, but I never heard her complain.

  • We had our rehearsal dinner at the Gardens of Park Hills and it was one of my favorite vendors.  They were great, food was awesome, service was good and the price was reasonable.  I can't comment on the Grand, but I would definitely recommend the Gardens.
  • Both of those venues are operated by McHale's catering so the food would be about the same. I think McHales does a good job of running events (food, clearing, tear down, etc) so it would come down to location-- Covington vs. Park Hills, which room she likes and cost differences.  I personally like events at the Madison-- lower price point than McHales and also done very well. Both groups definitely know how to do weddings.
  • I may be too late, but I wanted to offer a different perspective on the Grand. I attended two wedding there last summer and was very impressed with the space. There's an upstairs "balcony" that overlooks the main reception area. Both brides opted to have cocktails in that space. The main room has floor-to-ceiling windows that offer a view of downtown, which is absolutely beautiful.

The Gardens is a perfectly OK space, but if you're looking for something extraordinary, I'd recommend the Grand. HTH!
