Is it possible to do Chicago on the cheap?
My sister would love to do a trip for her bachelorette. My bachelorette party was not all that exciting so I want to do something special for my sis. She's mentioned Chicago, NYC, or a wine country (NY or CA). None of them are cheap but Chicago would probably be the easiest/most affordable. Age is a factor too. My sister & her friends are all 21 or 22, I am not! The moms & aunts would probably be included too. Sure we could just go to Indy, Columbus, etc, but I'm sure that won't be exciting enought for the 21 year olds. Any ideas or suggestions for saving money? Even the cost of parking at a Chicago hotel scares me! All the times I've been there work has paid for everything!
Re: Is it possible to do Chicago on the cheap?
You could ride the megabus to avoid parking charges at the hotels. I have only been twice and once we stayed with a friend. I am not really familiar with the different areas, but when we stayed in a hotel it was only $119/night. We stayed at the Sheraton near Navy Pier, which was only a couple blocks from the Magnificent Mile. My friend stays at the Lenox suites when she goes, not sure about the price. I would check expedia for hotels. I'm sure you could get a good price on hotels further from the center of downtown and just take the subway.
There are TONS of good bars, clubs and restaurants that I'm sure all of you would enjoy. YOu must go to Hang Ups for people watching and dancing. It is a blast.
Since on Hotwire you only get to choose your area, I spent a lot of time looking into what attractions were in what part of the city, and we were able to walk everywhere we went. Oh, we did take the free trolley once, but that was just for the novelty of it, not because we needed to.
Didn't even get the car until we were checking out of the hotel.
I know with Hotwire you don't know which hotel you get until you complete your reservation, but this is the one we got. For only $80/night!

I went to Chicago for a bachelorette party last year and it was really cheap...we only paid a hundred each and there were 5 of us. We drove up and used Priceline to find a hotel. When I went with the girls one of them picked the hotel and it was in the medical district which was okay but far away from the city central...it was close to little italy.
I went again in July with my husband and I used priceline and did the name your own price. I picked a 4 star hotel on michigan avenue and i got it for either 80 or 100 a night...parking was 20 a night which is nothing compared to NYC. It ended up being a really really nice hilton with a seperate bedroom and living areas, kitchenette, etc. Plus, we were right on michigan avenue (well 1 block back) so we were right where everything was....I know all the bars are on rush street which is a block behind michigan. We also did the tour thing for 2 days...you get on a double decker bus and it takes you all around the city...you can get on and off as much as you want...I think its around 30 a person.

I vote for the NY vineyards.
They have really inexpensive limo's that take you on wine tours. Would recommend Cayuga or Seneca Lake in the Finger Lakes region. There are some really cute bed and breakfasts and vineyards with rooms for fairly cheap.

I love Chicago, so I'm a little biased.
But to give you even more to consider, the Broadripple-area in Indianapolis is a lot of fun. The Vogue is one of their main bars and it's a great spot for b-parties. Check their web site for the band schedule; they have some great shows. And if you're looking for wine country, there's a trail in the Carolinas as well. Have fun!
