Poll: Something that you and DH are on complete opposite sides.
Could be religion, politics, activities, savings, etc.
Re: Poll: Something that you and DH are on complete opposite sides.
I hate clutter and like to "hide" things. Shove it in a drawer or closet so I don't have to look at it. My DH is a hoarder with strange things. He keeps all of his mail and it drives me NUTS. There is always paper everywhere. He literally has bags of mail. Either file it or trash it!
Spending money.
DH would hoard every cent he could, if he could.
I, on the other hand, understand saving is important - but so is enjoying the here & now.
It was a little bit of a struggle to get him to agree to taking a cruise in January. My philosophy is - save, don't be extravagant, but enjoy your life in the here & now!
1. How the toilet paper goes on the roll. I could care less. However I put it on the roll is how it goes. DH likes for it to go so it pulls from the top.
2. Saving money. Aaron spends money just to spend it and is having trouble staying on our budget. He gets mad at me because he doesn't think I give him 'enough' money for the week, but we both get the same amount and somehow I can manage to stay on budget and some weeks have money left over.
This.
In fact every year I claim S-0 so that when I file taxes, I get a large sum back to spend. It's my own silly way of saving. This year Eric told me he wanted us to put our entire return in savings. Needless to say we argued a bit over it because I told him I would have claimed differently had I known it was going straight to savings.
Don't get me wrong, I can save (more with his help). But for the past 2 years we saved every penny we had for a wedding and house down payment. He knew full well that things after the wedding weren't going to be that way.
So we compromised and are only saving half of it and spending the other half. And don't tell him this, but he's glad he'll have some money to spend.
Everything.
Totally not kidding either. We are different on spending money, politics, cleaning the house, the way we raise Rowen, what we watch on TV, etc. It isn't a huge problem because he is gone most of the time (he is a pilot and gone 4 days straight with the airline then he usually works for the guard on his days off) so we just do things my way. I told him when we were buying a house that he should just give into me because its not like he really lives there.
I was kidding but I think I hurt his feelings so I gave in and he got the house he wanted.
We're slightly different on our views of spending and saving. I prefer to save a regular amount from each paycheck "just in case" and he will only save if we have a short-term goal, like the wedding or a vacation, to save for.
We're also hugely different when it comes to decorating. It drives me nuts! We actually just took this quiz in Real Simple magazine and it perfectly defined our styles. He's very modern, they called it Modern Graphic (glass, metal, bright/primary colors), and I was a mix of Cozy Casual (think Pottery Barn and Crate & Barrel) and Vintage Eclectic (think Anthropolgie). We hardly ever agree on how to decorate stuff, and it's so irritating to me that he actually cares! I don't mind modern stuff, but sometimes I feel like I'm living in a bachelor pad still. Phew, baby steps...
opening the other person's mail......DH gets so pissed if I open any of his mail. He has no real reason for it, he just always tells me "because". I, on the other hand, couldn't care less if he opens my mail or not. I don't have anything coming that he can't see. It wouldn't bother me so much except he won't open his own mail and bills get lost. Ex. we switched car insurance recently and DH can canceled his on his own.....a couple weeks later he gets a bill from his old insurance to pay for coverage for the rest of the month. So he goes and drags out this piece of unopened mail from his insurance that had a waiver form in it that he needed to sign and return to complete the cancellation. I asked him why he didn't open it and he got all pissy and said he didn't think it was important. We had a little tiff about how that's why he shouldn't get so mad when I open his mail b/c if I had got it and opened it he wouldn't have got the bill.
Okay, rant over...as you can probably tell that's one things about him that really annoys me
Spending money and the health care reform. We had a discussion on Sunday regarding the health care bill and I felt as if we had been in argument.
Oh and how he assumes everyone else is mean.
we are very much on the same page about spending surprisingly. Actually, he's more responsible and I am happy to follow his lead b/c I know it's better for us that way.
Our views on what is clean enough is where we are opposites - I am a slob and he is very neat. I've become less of a slob since living with him, but I certainly don't enjoy those Saturdays when he decides it's time to clean everything and I just want to relax!!
This definitely!! When I say "I'm on my way" i'm literally in my car on my way to where ever. When he says it, it usually means hes either a) still sitting somewhere but thinking of leaving soon, or he's in his car but has 3 other errands to do first. drives me bananas.
DH is horrible with money, but he agrees that I should be in control of it
We disagree on timing for things, things I want right now, he wants to wait and vice versa.
We agree on most things (politics, religion, and the parenting things we've dicussed we agree on). I think right now the biggest thing we disagree on is how to spend our free time.
I have a pile like this next to my dresser! My jeans and sweatshirts that have already been worn, but can be worn again before needing washed. Makes perfect sense!
Most of the time when these types of conversations arise, I am more like peoples husbands, and my DH is like the girls.
We're very different...very very very.
I love veggies, he loves meat. I pay the bills because he probably wouldn't even open them, let alone pay them. I use my dirty clothes hamper, he uses the floor. I put away my clothes, his stay in the dryer (that's his dresser apparently). I love exotic foods, he thinks I'm nuts (but he wouldn't eat a nut either). He likes chick-flicks, I can't really stand them. I love the sun, he loves the shade. He loves to nap, I can't sit still. I love beer, he can't stand it. I care what people think, he could give two craps.
We really do have some things in common though...really we do! I just can't think of any right now...joking...kind of.

Tammy and Esther- I totally laughed out loud because DH and I have the same "soon" issues you guys do, I'm glad I'm not alone!!
This is also where some of our complete opposites come in. His idea of soon is sometime during the week. He'll clean up "soon", get the noise in the dryer fixed soon, put away the clothes, do the dishes... etc you get the idea. I'm a "do it now" kind of person and get annoyed by clutter and stuff out. He just works around it or steps over it. argh!!
I'm always more like the husbands, too! DH is a clean freak and I am not even close. I also have the semi-clean pile (beside my dresser) and he gets so frustrated with it. I'm totally cool with living out of the hamper, and DH wants the laundry put away as soon as it comes out of the dryer. That's really the biggest thing that we differ on and the only source of tension in our household.
The only other thing I can think of is religion, but even though DH still claims to be Catholic he doesn't go to church or really even believe much of what they teach anymore so it's almost like we're on the same page.
Sports... not opposing teams... I just could careless and he is obsessed and wishes I would take more interest!
It's funny when we were younger everyone thought we were complete opposites... we've been together 12 years and now I think we've grown together! We're on the same side when it comes to pretty much everything, politics, religion, lifestyles, spending, cleaning, sleeping-in! Can't think of much we disagree on anymore!
