Book rec: Institutionalization of birth
Sirensong's birth story reminded me of a novel I read last year called The Birth House (by Amy McKay). It's all about the way midwives were pushed out of the birth process by the rise of the medical institution. It's a powerful, interesting read... makes me definitely want to have a midwife!

We had two midwives come to the rescue squad where I volunteer last night, they had a lot of interesting information.
