donating household fixtures?

A while back someone posted here about a local place that takes donations of household items for use in new homes. We have 8 sets of indoor brass door levers, a brass dining room light fixture, and a couple of brass outdoor light fixtures. Anyone know a place that would take in these as donations? We aren't looking for money, we just want them to be put to good use since they are in fine working order!

Re: donating household fixtures?

  • There's a place called Building Value that takes fixtures, etc. and resells the in their retail shop. It's an awesome organization. We donated a bunch of perfectly good door knobs and light fixtures when we moved into our house and I "debrassed" it! Anyway, they give you a form so you can take down the values and write it off as a tax deduction. It's a win-win for everybody involved!

    Here's the info:www.buildingvalue-cincy.org

  • An extra vote for Building Value!!

Building Value is a program of Easter Seals WRC (where I work).  In addition to household fixtures, we also accept used building materials, kitchen cabinets, counter tops, and bathroom fixtures.  In our new location at 4040 Spring Grove, we also have a huge display room or architectual antiques.  Definitely come check us out - Patrick and the gang down there are great!

  • I just wanted to say that I love Building Value!! So I think considering them for a donation is awesome!

With a 111-yr old house, 'new' things tend to look weird in my place so I stop in there to browse fixtures when we need something before I shop elsewhere. A friend of mine even got a solid oak door there that would've cost her hundreds elsewhere for $30 and some solid oak kitchen cabinets that she's refinished to become beautiful again for a steal on what she would have paid new.

  • perfect!! thank you so much

  • Sounds like a great program--I'll have to keep it in mind if our new house (we're still hunting) is full of brass. DH absolutely loves brass, but I hate it with a passion...I've lived with it in our current house and replaced what I could get away with. I tried to convince him it would help our resale value to get rid of it all, but he didn't bite.

In the next house I'm putting my foot down on the brass issue. (-=
