Moms ?? for you

I was just looking at my friend's registry and I admit: I have NO CLUE what to get a new mom. LOL  I usually put something together, but I was wondering:

Knowing what you know now, what did you wish you'd gotten for your shower/as a gift (or more of)?

Any insight would be great! TIA

Re: Moms ?? for you

  • Didn't need the Bumbo seat. Loved the Boppy pillow. Would have loved more wipes, diapers, diaper rash cream, etc. Did not need anymore clothes. If you do buy diapers I suggest buying size 2 or 3. And if you do buy clothes I suggest 9+ months and don't get anything to season specific (like shorts and a tank top...go with standard onsies and pants).

These were my thoughts - various sizes like that, but I'm CLUELESS on diapers (brands, sizes, etc.)  (The clothes... I've heard and done that before - gotten various stuff.)

    Thanks!!  Keep it coming! Smile

  • Kristin pretty much hit it on the head.

I got way to many clothes! A nice gift basket of diapers, wipes, bibs, wash, etc. I think is perfect and what I give.

  • Diaper brand  - we use both Huggies and Pampers and haven't had a problem with either but it really depends on the baby. I like Pampers better because they seems softer. May just be me though.
  • I was looking at the posts and was like wait thats me now :)

I would have loved to get diapers and more washcloths!!! I didnt think i would really need them and could use our washcloths, boy was i wrong, they are just so much softer for babies. Diapers, we prefer pampers because huggies leaked for us big time. Also im with Kristin on the 9 months and up clothes if you really feel the need to buy clothes. 95% of my gifts were clothes and way too many that were 0-3 and hes still in newborn right now. Which i only received 1 of and we had to go buy the rest ourselves.

The Boppy has been awesome as well as our diaper pail (trash can). Also i have to say the Fisher price seahorse. It helps him calm down, not necessarily put him to sleep but it helps relax him.

  • All moms are different but whatever you give just be sure to provide a gift receipt.

I suggest Infant Tylenol, Mylicon drops (gas relief), Pampers Swaddlers diapers, Huggies Natural Care wipes, A&D diaper rash ointment, Desitin original diaper cream, large bibs (not the small ones which are known as drool bibs), Gerber brand cloth diapers (which are used as burp rags)...etc. Does this help?

  • I don't even remember what I got for shower gifts at this point, but my favorite things to give to my friends:

diper bag full of wipes, diapers, creams, travel items etc.

    or

shutterfly gift certificate w/ a cute picture frame (just got this for my co-worker)

    Yes, Kristin.. thank you!

And Heather - I love the idea of the Shutterfly gift card & frame!

  • Oh and if you buy any medicine as a gift try to buy the dye-free kind...much nicer on the clothes! Let me know if you need any other suggestions :)

  • My go to present lately has been an LL Bean boat and tote monogramed with the babies last name on it (I do this because of my discount and people love it, but a basket would work fine too) and fill it with smaller stuff. Infant tylenol and motrin, mycelon drops, wash cloths, thermometer, grooming kit, butt cream-we love Burts Bees, but A&D, or desitin are usually preferred, the gerber cloth diapers that you use as burp cloths, baby lotion and bath soap (stay away from the johnson and johnson it is super drying). Or my other go to-a jumbo box of diapers and a jumbo box of wipes. We prefer Pampers for the diapers although a lot of people prefer Huggies. It will take them a little while to decide what they like best. And if you do wipes get the totally unscented sensitive ones.
  • I think Kristen hit it on the head.  I really didn't need clothes, people bought so much in so many different sizes.

I also second the larger bibs (they were a lot better than the very small ones).
