EliAP

I saw you post in the healthcare thread about never having presented your health card to your doctor.

I would *strongly* suggest that you start presenting your health card next time you go to the doctor! I don't know what your doctors are doing right now - whether they're billing you after the fact or just not charging at all, but they need to start billing OHIP for your care.

It won't cost you anything, but they need to be properly compensated for their services.

(I would be very surprised if they were just letting your visits go free, but I have no idea what the rules are about billing non-Canadians in our healthcare system.)

Re: EliAP

  • I agree. It would totally suck to find out that they have been billing you this whole time.
  • They aren't charging me.  I've only been in once for my annual exam (a service offered free at this clinic), and I've purchased my bc pills every other time I've been in.  I will give them my health card next time I go in for my annual, although I did just read on their website that the health card is not mandatory at this clinic (probably one of the reasons why it was recommended to me before I had my health card).

However, when I do go to the walk-in clinic (regular doctor, not relating to bc), I have presented my health card.

Thank you for the concern, though!

  • The women's clinic I went to also doesn't require a health card...if you present one, they get funded through OHIP, otherwise it's through generous donations that keeps them running. So if yours is the same, it'd be a good idea to give them your health card so that donations can be used towards those who are not eligible for OHIP.
