South Beach Diet anyone?

Im nearing the end of my second week of Phase 1 and I have lost 8lbs, with little to no excersise. Im a little nervous about making that change to Phase 2 because Im afraid I wont continue to loose the weight. I love this diet because it allowes you to eat a lot of food, but it makes you choose your foods wisely. Has anyone here done South Beach? I would love to talk to someone about it.

Re: South Beach Diet anyone?

  • I did South Beach a few years ago and like you I lost 8 lbs in phase 1 with pretty much no exercise.  I didn't really follow phase 2 too closely and I did gain a couple of pounds back, but then I maintained for a while.  I did lose a little bit more weight after that and held it for a while, but I wasn't following the plan anymore.  I was more or less just doing my own thing.

Honestly, cutting carbs and increasing protein seems to be the best way for me to lose weight.  Overall, I didn't think it was a bad program especially if you learn about portion control and how certain foods affect you personally.

  • I am a total carb-o-holic. Its in my genes. So that was really really hard to give up, but honestly by throwing in a small bowl of Special K cereal every few days has really helped. I honestly dont feel like I need to add the bready starchy carbs back in. Especially since I have found new recipes and I love to cook. Its a little more expensive because of the cuts of meat required, but since Im not eating take out or delivery and not drinking alchol I have actually saved money.
  • I totally understand.  Those first two weeks were killer for me.  I love bread and pasta and lots of sugary treats.  Now, I just make smarter choices.  Whole wheat or whole grain or sometimes I just have the white refined stuff but in a smaller portion.
  • I did it and lost weight very easily, especially when I added a little exercise. Just try to do a few minutes of cardio. That will help keep the weight coming off and keep it off. I still hold on to a lot of my SBD habits, like eating oatmeal for breakfast and salads for lunch. I really need to do Phase 1 again but I haven't had the motivation.
