Anyone still around? WWYD?

Bear with me - this could be kind of long.

Background: Greg and I have acknowledged we sometimes act and often live our lives like we're in our 50s. LOL  So we're trying to do things we normally would shoot down to start acting our age, and hopefully build and possibly even gain new friendships.

WWYD: A friend (not super close) asked us if we wanted to join him and his fairly new gf on a Brewers bus trip in June.  At first, I was all over it and Greg seemed fine, but we wanted to know where the seats were.  Turns out... seats are Terrace level. Sad  Bummer... TOP level, likely nosebleed-type things.  I tell friend via text we're probably out because I'm a seat snob.  I admit it: we work hard and enjoy the nicer things when we can (like seats... a whopping upgrade of like $15 each for an actual view of the field where you can see the players.)

He comes back and says "That sux."  The jist of the next 6 text messages is that he was really looking forward to the 4 of us going. (That surprised me - took me aback a little.  This guy's not overly sentimental.)  We'd thought he was going regardless - with other friends or something.  Nope... he said "if you guys are out, I'll probably bail too." Indifferent

Whoa.  So now I'm seriously thinking maybe we should just go... this friend said "it's more about the boozing, chilling, and tailgating.. it happens to be at a brewers game."

To me, I take it all as he's trying to build our friendship.  So now I don't want to bail on him.

BUT.. I HATE buses.  Seriously.  (I did tell him that and explained I'd be highly drugged up so my boozing would be limited.)  I get carsick... well, I drive ALL.THE.TIME for a reason.  (I can sometimes manage to ride in the front passenger seat, but even then sometimes get sick.)  Also, I'm afraid this friend will get OBNOXIOUS drunk and we'll hate it.  And it's June... we get all psyched to go now... and come June, I'm afraid we'll REALLY regret having committed but then we're stuck.

WWYD?  Go, drug up for the busride and make the best of it?  Or just bow out?

(FYI: I did also say that we could just GO another time... bus or not.  That got no response.)

Re: Anyone still around? WWYD?

  • I think I would say "Why don't we go but instead of a bus, I'll drive us all there and we can pick our own seats and it'll be a blast!"

Honestly, I wouldn't give up the chance to hang out with friends simply because of where the seats are and I also wouldn't want to get carsick.  SO I'd do the next best thing and make that offer.  That way you can all go and hang out but you won't be stuck on a bus or somewhere you don't want to sit.

I tried offering that we could go ANYTIME, not even restricted to this one time.  I think the booze, food, and transportation is a BIG DEAL to him. Tongue Tied

So going back to him and saying "I'll just drive and then we can go, blah blah blah"... I think it's the environment of being on a busful of people, with coolers of booze and food, etc.

And Kristin, we're just too far apart or we could all hang out like 50-some year olds. LOL

  • Ok so it's a big bus arrangement...do you have to buy seats through this deal or get them on your own? And would this couple know others on the bus or only you guys?
Say you decide to go and come June you don't still like this couple or care to hang out with them...maybe you could make new friends with someone else in the group on the bus? But if you have to buy seats through this deal then you might be SOL and have to sit next to this couple that you may or may not be friends with anymore.

I agree we could all hang out like 50 something year olds if we were closer ;)

  • Sorry... these types of arrangements are so common here, I didn't realize this wasn't at least familiar to others. Tongue Tied

$36 buys a ticket somewhere in the Terrace level (I'm sure the seats would be handed out on the bus), transportation down on a school bus (more than likely; it's almost never a Coach bus), food, and booze.

we're the same way.  I agree with what Mandy said too.  I wouldn't want to be on a bus with a bunch of drunk people either.  I'd rather drive and have my own mode of transportation.

  • Thats a tough situation, I totally understand. I get car, bus, plane, boat sick so I completely feel your pain.

I wouldn't put yourself in a position where you feel like you aren't going to have fun or are going to dread it.

I would work on convincing him to go another time, with you driving and getting decent seats.

This.  Although, it may be fun if you can control the sickness...have you tried those little bracelet things to help with motion sickness?

Damn you Nest for screwing up my siggy!

I have... I've never REALLY put them to the test but they do work to some smaller extent.  Of course, it's June... and then you have to explain to EVERYONE why you have Jane-Fonda-like "bracelets" on your wrists.  (You have to wear them ~2" up from where your hand and arm meet, and you HAVE to wear both.)

  • LOL...maybe you can start a new fashion trend!
