Thoughts on Lancaster NY?
Hi ladies,
Although I don't post often, I lurk often and I value your opinions!! My hubs and I are looking at houses in the Buffalo area.
We have rented in Williamsville for about 2 years and honestly don't venture out of the Amherst/Williamsville area too much at all.
We have been told Lancaster is the new up and coming suburb.
Do any of you live here? What are your thoughts? We obviously need to explore more, but just thought I'd get any ideas.
We are mostly looking at new(ish) houses- a lot of them are in subdivisions.
Thanks in advance for any advice!
Re: Thoughts on Lancaster NY?
I know this isn't what you're asking for, but I'm going to shout out living downtown. It doesn't make sense for everyone (not great public schools) but you can get a beautiful house in a vibrant, safe neighborhood for less than you can in most of the outer ring suburbs. We love it because we can both walk to work, and have a lot of fun bars/restaurants/events nearby.
That said, we rent. I hope we'll buy in the city but I can't know for sure. I just wanted to make the case, because the more new young familys that move in, the better the whole area gets.
I know most real estate agents don't show houses downtown, but I'd recommend checking out the elmwood village, and hertel/parkside to see what's out there.
Best of luck on your house search!
I live in the Villiage of Lancaster. I do love our neighborhood. It's quiet and everyone knows each other and helps each other. The shool district is really good as well. Everything is close by except for the thruway. It does take an extra 5-10 minutes just to get to the thruway. My husband and I both work downtown and before DD it only took us 20-30 minutes to get to work.
We looked at Lancaster when we were house hunting, but we weren't looking for the newer houses and I couldn't really find anything I liked in our price range.. The houses seemed kind of run down.

There are a lot of nice, new homes. We are looking to build or buy a newer home, and it's an area we are considering. The schools are good too... #12 on the rankings for 2009. (out of 98 districts in WNY)
The only downfall, for me, is that it is a little farther out than I want to go.
Woops.. you're right Nicole.. I was looking at a list from 04. My bad.
