Re: ?Mamas & Mamas to Be: Weekly Check-in? (ha! won't miss this week!)

  • (1) What week are you in/how old is your LO? 34 weeks, 3 days

    (2) How are you feeling? Any new milestones or news in the last week to share? Kinda freaked out, to tell the truth. All this time I've been desperately eying the 35-36 week mark, telling myself that all I have to do is make it to that point and the babies will be OK because they're basically term at that stage...and then tonight I did something stupid and googled it and now I've read a thousand horrible stories about twins being born at 36 weeks and having to spend 2 weeks in the NICU because of breathing issues, etc. Since I know it's unlikely I'll make it to 38 weeks (at which point I'd be induced), I'm now kinda freaking out and scared at the thought of them arriving sooner. Crying

    (3) Next appointment date?  Any big ultrasounds/other exciting stuff coming up? Um...ugh, I don't even know. I have a checkup on Tuesday, and a CTG scan sometime on Sunday (just a precautionary measure because some of my liver bile numbers are a wee bit high - it's one of those "we don't think there's anything actually wrong but we're going to check just in case" situations).

    (4) What is one BR thing that you learned this week? That a kid who kicks the same freaking spot on your side over and over and over for three days can actually make it hurt! Knock it off, you little turd! Stick out tongue

    (5) Are you attending any childbirth classes? Yes, this Saturday, actually! The ones here are hosted by the local hospital, and they're the only ones offered in my area. I read through the booklet they provide and now I'm kinda skeptical about what they'll be discussing...it's extremely biased toward anti-pain relief and anti-interference, and while that isn't necessarily bad (better than "we're going to pump you full of drugs and use forceps no matter what!"), I feel like they should be presenting a more balanced approach, especially considering that many people don't have a choice in matters like whether or not to have a c-section. Or some people like myself don't have a choice in whether or not to have an epidural line attached (it's hospital policy for multiples, but I've been warned by a few parents that because the nurses have such a strong anti-pain relief stance there that this may make them treat me badly, regardless of whether or not I choose to actually USE the epi). So we shall see what it's like...

    (6) Are you planning on or have you done a maternity photo shoot? If so, how did you decide on a photog? (Mamas - a newborn photo shoot?) Nope, no photo shoot. Partly because I'm WELL past the point where I feel I could look good in photos lol and partly because it's not in the budget.

    (7) What physical features do you hope your baby gets from you? How about from your husband? (Mamas - what features do you think your baby got from you/your husband?) I hope they get my teeth - I'm one of those people with naturally perfect teeth, which has been a huge blessing - Ben, on the other hand, needed about a million dollars of orthodontic work from his preteens until he was 20 or 21, poor kid. I hope they get his hair - it's black and thick and wavy, while mine is super thin and fine. And his eyes, which are a very pretty green.

  • (1) What week are you in/how old is your LO?

Libby is 2 months old today!

    (2) How are you feeling? Any new milestones or news in the last week to share?

Libby is STTN most nights...she goes down for 3 hours (9-midnight), dreamfeeds and then back to sleep until 5 or 6 am.  She is also cooing like crazy and "talks" to us now.  She also laughed for the first time last week.  She can do baby push-ups when she's on her belly and looks like she might start rolling front to back soon.  We also think she might be teething!  She's started drooling like crazy and loves her gums to be rubbed.  There's something hard/sharp on her upper right side, in the front.  A tooth?  We shall see.

Feeling anxious about going back to the office next week.  I'll be going twice a week for the month of April (Tu/Th) and then back to five days a week in May.  We've decided to have my mom assist with childcare so we don't have to put Libby in at a daycare center (which was originally our plan, but since my travels for work this summer have been canceled we won't have to do daycare).  J will be here, but will be the secondary caregiver for a few hours each day so he can study and my mom will provide primary care during that time frame.  We're just doing it on a trial basis through August and then we'll see how it's working (or not) for everyone. I won't lie, it's been a real life saver having my mom here with a newborn... somedays it's the ONLY way I get to shower!

    (3) Next appointment date?  Any big ultrasounds/other exciting stuff coming up?

Libby's two month appointment is Tuesday.  She'll get more shots. Crying  I am curious to see her measurements... I measured/weighed her last week and we had 23 inches long and 16 lbs.

    (4) What is one BR thing that you learned this week? (Jaime suggested having this as a regular weekly question - sound good?)

Swaddling is a miracle for calming/soothing a baby as is skin2skin contact.  Libby was ramped up and hysterical, so I stripped her down to her diaper and took off my top and climbed into bed with her.  She was so frantic she wouldn't even take the breast.  After 30 minutes or so, she finally calmed down and then nursed to sleep.  We've also noticed that if we swaddle her she calms down almost immediately.

    (5) Are you attending any childbirth classes?

We did an Bradley Birth intensive (three weekends) at the beginning of my third trimester.

    (6) Are you planning on or have you done a maternity photo shoot? If so, how did you decide on a photog? (Mamas - a newborn photo shoot?)

We had both and I highly recommend it.  I found our photog through a FB ad.  She's awesome and has amazing prices for the level of shots she produces.  We actually got a "baby bundle package" so will have sessions for 3, 6, 9 and 12 months.  She also does "mini sessions" and has one outdoors next month.  I've asked J that for my Mother's Day gift I do one of these sessions with Libby since I don't have many great photos of the two of us together (the ones we have I am looking pretty torn up and/or am breastfeeding her).  Luckily her sessions are only $25 and include a free 5x7 although I am sure we'll probably purchase the digital negatives which go for about $20/photo if you buy 10 or $7/photo if you buy 40.

    (7) What physical features do you hope your baby gets from you? How about from your husband? (Mamas - what features do you think your baby got from you/your husband?)

This is the topic of daily discussion in our household...so far we think she's got my eyes, brow and chin and J's nose, ears, cheeks, fingers/toes and skin tone.  I think she also has J's wicked sense of humor...she's very silly and cracks up a lot!

    (8) Are there any questions that you'd like to see here in the future?

Breastfeeding moms who work outside the house....what is your pumping schedule and how do you store your pumped milk (freshly pumped as well as the milk you have at home)?

TTCers:  Which cycle are you on?  Where in the cycle are you?  What, if anything, are you doing to have success TTCing?

Mamas: For better AND worse, how has your relationship with DH changed since pregnancy or the LO's arrival?  And how have you dealt with the difficult changes?

For better...we feel more connected than ever before and more deeply committed to our relationship and family.  For worse... our communication, in some ways, has suffered due to lack of quality time toegther and energy (being exhausted).  But we're working on that.

BONUS: PIP of your bump or LO or for TTCers, link to your chart!

    image

I took this photo yesterday of Libby wearing one of the outfits I wore as a baby...a sweet Italian knit top and bottom trimmed with lace.  I figured I'd better put it on her before she's too big for it (I had originally hoped to have her 3 months photos in it, but it won't fit by then I am sure)!

My mom got her that cute, fuzzy pink lamb to celebrate Spring. The quilt and sham I recently score on eBay...they're on the daybed in her room

  • (1) What week are you in/how old is your LO? 22 week, 4 days

    (2) How are you feeling? Any new milestones or news in the last week to share?  Pretty good!  We're starting to more seriously plan/shop for the nursery, which I am very excited about.  And I had three people at work this week say they wanted to throw me a shower, which I did not expect at all, so that's pretty cool!  The ILs are coming this weekend which, for me, is not something to complain about....I adore them!  They are so much fun to hang out with, and we're planning to go shopping for the nursery furniture.

    (3) Next appointment date?  Any big ultrasounds/other exciting stuff coming up? My next appt. is April 5th for the glucose test.  I'm pretty nervous about this, because I certain it'll be positive for GD.  My mother and grandmother are diabetic, and I just have a bad feeling about this one.  But....I'll deal with it, I guess!

    (4) What is one BR thing that you learned this week? I knew pregnancy could give you gas, but I did not know how painful it could be!  I've had the WORST gas this week.....not that it stinks, but that it hurts!

    (5) Are you attending any childbirth classes? We plan to at our hospital when it gets a little closer.  I printed out their schedule, but haven't booked a session yet.

    (6) Are you planning on or have you done a maternity photo shoot? If so, how did you decide on a photog? (Mamas - a newborn photo shoot?) I'd like to schedule a newborn shoot, but MH thinks it's a waste.  To be fair, he's a excellent photographer, and would probably take great photos, but I'd rather go to a pro who has lighting and backdrops.  We'll see, I guess.

    (7) What physical features do you hope your baby gets from you? How about from your husband? (Mamas - what features do you think your baby got from you/your husband?) I hope he gets my eyes, which are my favorite feature about myself.  They are very pale blue-green.  MH also had blue eyes, so it's very possible.  I also have excellent eyesight, which would be wonderful, too.  We both have stick-straight blonde hair, so I guess there's no wondering there!  And we are also both tall, so I think he has very little chance of not being 6'0" when he grows up (I'm 5'11", and MH is 6'0")  I'd rather he have my nose, but MH's teeth (I have terrible teeth....straight but cavity-ridden, no matter what I do!).

  • (1) What week are you in/how old is your LO? 16 weeks today!

    (2) How are you feeling? Any new milestones or news in the last week to share?  okay...sometimes still a little nauseous & it seems like I still become a pukey smurf once a week, but nothing really to complain about

    (3) Next appointment date?  Any big ultrasounds/other exciting stuff coming up? My next appt. is April 1st!  But just for a regular checkup.

    (4) What is one BR thing that you learned this week?

    (5) Are you attending any childbirth classes? We definitely plan on taking some.  I think the hosptial offers them so probably something there.

    (6) Are you planning on or have you done a maternity photo shoot? If so, how did you decide on a photog? (Mamas - a newborn photo shoot?) I would really like to do maternity & newborn photos.  I am having a hard time finding someone reasonable here, but it is definitely something I want to do.

    (7) What physical features do you hope your baby gets from you? How about from your husband? definitely hope baby gets some of DH's height.  He is 6'2 & I am just 5'2.  Baby doesn't need to be a basketball player, but just a little extra height would be really nice!  Hope baby gets my eyes - though DH has pretty hazel eyes - pretty much everyone in my family has light eyes so it is a little crazy to think of my kids without the same.  Also my teeth in appearance only though - naturally straight - but I have the occassional cavity. DH needed braces but seems to have pretty strong teeth.

  • (1) What week are you in/how old is your LO? Jack is 5 weeks tomorrow

    (2) How are you feeling? Any new milestones or news in the last week to share? We had bottle success and now we need to limit it - I went to see the LC and as I though my let down is too fast for the little guy.  He was dealing ok but now that he had a steady slow bottle the fast breast just ticks him off.  So he will only get a bottle 1-2 times a week and only for 1-2oz.  In the meantime I am working on reading his queues better and I remove him during a feeding and just let the milk spray/drip into a cloth diaper, when it slows down he continues eating.  It's going much better.  He nurses longer and seems to be happier.

    (3) Next appointment date?  Any big ultrasounds/other exciting stuff coming up? 6 week for me next Friday.

    (4) What is one BR thing that you learned this week? (Jaime suggested having this as a regular weekly question - sound good?) Jack loves showers.  I was feeling lazy and didn't want to set up his tub so I just took him in the shower with me.  I feel like he got cleaner because I could reach all areas better.  He loved feeling the spray on his back and belly - I think I almost got his first non-sleep smile out of him.  He always pees in the bath and the shower was no different  Huh?  BOYS!!

    (5) Are you attending any childbirth classes? I loved our class, I didn't really learn much, but (as much as he won't admit it) DH learned A LOT.  His previous outlook on birth was that it is a big scary gross event.  I kind of always had a feeling that I would shut down and just work myself though labor and that is what happened, I didn't need a "coach" so the class we took was great - they didn't focus too much on positions or breathing or anything like that, just explained the birth process and we watched some videos of natural childbirth and discussed the natural-ness of it all.

    (6) Are you planning on or have you done a maternity photo shoot? If so, how did you decide on a photog? (Mamas - a newborn photo shoot?) no maternity shoot for me, they don't really interest me.  I got some newborn pics of Jack at Sears and was pleased.  It was cheap  :)

    (7) What physical features do you hope your baby gets from you? How about from your husband? (Mamas - what features do you think your baby got from you/your husband?)  I hope he's tall like both of us but I hope he has my vision (even though it's horrible DH had a lazy eye as a child and had to wear patches and thick glasses.  It can be hereditary so the ped is already monitoring him for it and we have to watch him closely).  I think it's pretty much determined that he has dark hair like both of us and I'm happy he has my darker skin tone.  Maybe it would be nice (for him) if he took a little after me and didn't go grey at age 21 like his daddy - but who knows, I think DH's grey hair is kind of cute so that isn't really a bad thing.

Mamas: For better AND worse, how has your relationship with DH changed since pregnancy or the LO's arrival?  And how have you dealt with the difficult changes? still new to parenthood.  I can see that we spend less time as a couple, but we get so excited planning how we can incorporate Jack into our activities (Football games, trips, etc).  Once Jack starts taking up more time we will have to focus on US.  Right now Jack naps a lot in the evenings so we still eat together and watch our shows, etc.

  • (1) What week are you in/how old is your LO?

Elle is 14 weeks this week.

    (2) How are you feeling? Any new milestones or news in the last week to share?

Elyse is talking talking talking.  To us, to her friends on the activity mat and to the DOG!  It's so stinking adorable, I love it.  She's able to roll from her back to her left side, so it won't be long until she's rolling over.  I'm curious what she'll do when she gets to her tummy because she hates being face down.

I'm exhausted this week because I'm not sleeping very well.  We're having ongoing issues with my MIL.  This week she outright told me that I'm making a mistake by not allowing Elyse to fall asleep for the night in the living room.  To me this was the straw that broke the camels back - so to say.  She's been unsupportive and unhelpful since Elyse was born.  I was so happy when they went to Yuma for two months.  Now that they're back she doesn't understand that I'm not "winging it" decisions we've made regarding parenting have been thoroughly thought through.  We're going to make mistakes and I don't want her rubbing my nose in it.  She doesn't know that we have a bed time routine, much less understand it so it has p!ssed me off beyond belief that she judged me as a mother and told me what to do.

Unfortunatly this has made Russ and I fight.  I actually slept in the spare room we were so angry at each other.  He's been away for work for the last two days so we're going to re-address it.  Him with an open mind and me speaking more respectfully about his mom.

    (3) Next appointment date?  Any big ultrasounds/other exciting stuff coming up?

We're going out to a friends house for dinner on Saturday. My mom and dad are coming to watch Elle.

    (4) What is one BR thing that you learned this week? (Jaime suggested having this as a regular weekly question - sound good?)

I started following the baby whisperer's EASY schedule and Elyse falls into it very naturally.  I'm loving that it helps be determine why she's crying and allows me to know when she's going to need to eat nap etc.  It's given me a bit more ability to plan stuff.

    (5) Are you attending any childbirth classes?

We did a prenatal class through the health clinic and talked a lot about labour with  my doula.

    (6) Are you planning on or have you done a maternity photo shoot? If so, how did you decide on a photog? (Mamas - a newborn photo shoot?)

We did a maternity shoot.  I wish that we had done a new born shoot instead.

    (7) What physical features do you hope your baby gets from you? How about from your husband? (Mamas - what features do you think your baby got from you/your husband?)

Elyse's face is exactly a mini Russ, but her coloring is more me.

    (8) Are there any questions that you'd like to see here in the future?

Mamas: For better AND worse, how has your relationship with DH changed since pregnancy or the LO's arrival?  And how have you dealt with the difficult changes?

    For better:
We love being parents, even three months later we're still in awe that we made such a perfect little being!

    For worse:
We're fighting a lot over his mom as I mentioned above.  I'm feeling really disconnected from Russ, we're definatley going to work on this.

  • (1) What week are you in/how old is your LO? 39w,3d

    (2) How are you feeling? Any new milestones or news in the last week to share? Feeling good... last check up revealed a fingertip dilation and baby being nice and low.  The OB poked the baby's head and he/she moved -- first human contact!

    (3) Next appointment date?  Any big ultrasounds/other exciting stuff coming up? Tuesday, if we don't have this baby before then.

    (4) What is one BR thing that you learned this week? (Jaime suggested having this as a regular weekly question - sound good?) Not sure -- I've actually stopped reading/talking too much about babies and birthing this week.  I figure I'll learn A LOT very soon.

    (5) Are you attending any childbirth classes? We did a general childbirth class -- learning about the process, some pain management techniques, some Lamaze stuff.  We also have a doula who went over more of the same, and we've read up on the Bradley Method.  I wonder if any of it will stick on the big day... Tongue Tied

    (6) Are you planning on or have you done a maternity photo shoot? If so, how did you decide on a photog? (Mamas - a newborn photo shoot?) DH is taking the photos himself.  He enjoys photography and we can't see spending all that money for a pro.  He previously did my nieces' senior portraits and they were awesome, so I know he'll do a great job with the baby, too.

    (7) What physical features do you hope your baby gets from you? How about from your husband? (Mamas - what features do you think your baby got from you/your husband?)  My straight teeth and his perfect vision.

    (3) Next appointment date?  Any big ultrasounds/other exciting stuff coming up? april 7...start going every 2 weeks.  IDK when I'll have another u/s or what they plan on doing every other week

    (4) What is one BR thing that you learned this week? (Jaime suggested having this as a regular weekly question - sound good?) nothing that I can think of

    (5) Are you attending any childbirth classes? yes it is required by my hospital & OB, but haven't scheduled it yet

    (6) Are you planning on or have you done a maternity photo shoot? If so, how did you decide on a photog? (Mamas - a newborn photo shoot?) I am hopeing to but I need to call and set up a meeting to talk with her about it.

    (7) What physical features do you hope your baby gets from you? How about from your husband? (Mamas - what features do you think your baby got from you/your husband?)  my olive complexion and MH blue eyes.  I hope he doesn't get his ADD...both his other sons have it and it drives me crazy

  • (1) What week are you in/how old is your LO?

she's almost 4.5 months old, don't know exactly since my ticker is down LOL

    (2) How are you feeling? Any new milestones or news in the last week to share?

she's getting better and better at the back to tummy roll :) i now officially cannot leave her anywhere off the floor unattended like before!

    (3) Next appointment date?  Any big ultrasounds/other exciting stuff coming up?

6 months - shots and well baby check up

    (4) What is one BR thing that you learned this week?

we started the EASY method which i learned from Malia and I really like it...it is outlined in this thread here.  i used to nurse her before each nap or before bed but i am happy to get away from that now so she doesn't come to depend on it.

    (5) Are you attending any childbirth classes?

no we did not b/c i knew ahead of time i wanted an epidural and MH has delivered tons of babies before so he didn't need to learn anything else!

    (6) Are you planning on or have you done a maternity photo shoot? If so, how did you decide on a photog? (Mamas - a newborn photo shoot?)

we did both a maternity shoot and a newborn shoot, it was part of a "belly to bebe" package that i got. i basically googled "dallas newborn photographer" and looked at their online portfolios...got some opinions from friends/family on who they liked...then picked one based on that and cost.

    (7) What physical features do you hope your baby gets from you? How about from your husband? (Mamas - what features do you think your baby got from you/your husband?)

she has big eyes and long lashes like her daddy

she obviously has dark hair like the both of us

she has long fingers and big feet like i do

DH says she likes to talk a lot b/c she gets that from me LOL

    (8) Are there any questions that you'd like to see here in the future?

TTCers:  Which cycle are you on?  Where in the cycle are you?  What, if anything, are you doing to have success TTCing?

Mamas: For better AND worse, how has your relationship with DH changed since pregnancy or the LO's arrival?  And how have you dealt with the difficult changes?

well i think everyone here knows that our relationship has been a little worse but it a lot better now.  we had talked several times about it and i am not sure why this last time seemed to work better, maybe men just need to hear things multiple times??? i don't know.  i'm learning to communicate my BR related needs to him better and he is learning that he has to adjust to less "me time" now.

on the flip side, we both could not love our little girl any more!! she brings us such joy every day when she smiles and laughs at us.  we keep talking about how lucky we are to have her.

I don't know how you feel about taking medication, but Zantac is a LIFESAVER for me. My heartburn is so bad that it would literally make me want to vomit and nothing - nothing - except Zantac helps.
