I started my new job last Monday and it is going very well. I didn't think I could fill that much information in my head, but so far I am retaining it all. LOL!! We'll see come Monday when I don't have an "assistant". The girl I am replacing left to be a SAHM, so she came back in for the week to train me in. She is also working part time from home so I am able to call her at any time to ask for help, that will be nice! I am also LOVING not having to drive a distance to work, it takes me no more than 6-8 minutes to get to work from backing out of the garage. I was able to run home twice this week on my lunch break when I needed to get something!
It is not, however, going so great at my old job, they had offered a job to someone and it took her four days to get back to them and she declined it. I went back last Saturday and last Wednesday to finish up on some stuff (I had audits and other things I was IN the middle of and it was easier to go in and finsh it myself then to hand it off). I didn't get done so I was back again today working on some more things, and that is when the owner told me about the declined offer. He then asked if they made me a better offer, would I come back. . . . . .um, three weeks later??? I polietly said no. I did tell him that I would be willing to help out until they are able to find someone, so I will most likely be working Wednesday nights/Saturdays for a few weeks. Plus I also have to go back two days the week after Easter becase my coworker had a planned vacation that involved airline tickets that could not be canceled. So I am going back to help out with a bid and to do payroll. It will be some nice extra income since I am getting an hourly wage way above any part time job I could get, but this WILL be temporary.
So that leads to a QUICK POLL- Can you put a value on traveling? Obviously the cost of gas and maintenece on you vehilce, but what about the convenience? And your time? How much?
Anyway - I was exhausted this week, so I wasn't on much at all I did go back and read some posts - sending :::::::::::::jobs vibes::::::::::::: to all who are needing them!! Good luck to you all! They are truly great from here!
Re: MIA this week . . . (kinda long) & a POLL

Do you mean as in a commute to work? Yes, definitely. The financial cost to me on my 1.5 hour commute each way to work isn't much (public transportation, work reimburses me for more than half of it), but the time is something I think about. I commute 15-20 hours a week. I make enough money that I can justify it for now, but if I had kids I would say no amount of money would make it worth it. (that's why I've got to find a way to change my situation at some point!)

I definitely think that there is a value to traveling/commuting. I don't know what I would say in terms of dollars, but if my commute to work made me miserable I would try to change something.
That is kind of the direction I was going. . . I took a very minimal pay decrease to work locally, basically it was equal to the amount of gas I using to get to work. So if he were to make me a better offer, above and behond the cost of my gas, what would that amount have to be? How much is my time worth - or can you even put a price on that? Especially when I am comfortable living within the salary I am getting. I don't NEED more money, yes it would be nice, but is it worth an hour lost every day of commuting?
My answer is no!
I would certainly take a minimal decrease to work locally if it was still within my field of work - If I had to put a price on it, I'd probably take up to a 15K/year decrease to cut down my commute to 30 minutes or less each way.
