How was your eating escapade in Flushing this weekend?
Re: **Cassie**
A-mazing. I had a blast. J said me munching those noodles was the happiest he's seen me in a while. We went to the location in the Golden Mall, which is the place Anthony Bourdain went to. There's this food court in the basement which is made of a dozen different stalls. It was VERY small, I kept have to squeeze by people. Poor J was about a foot taller than everyone else.
Usually I hate small, crowded places but everyone just kind of went with it so it was ok (instead everyone bitching and complaining about it like everywhere else in NYC). We found the stall (the 4 other white people eating next to pictures of Eric Ribert and Anthony Boudain made it easy) and ordered Savory Cumin Lamb Hand Pulled Noodles and Spicy & Sour Hand Pulled Noodle Soup. Both were EXCELLENT, though my soup could've been spicier (I can never convince waiters or vendors that I actually want my food super spicy). The cumin lamb was very different than anything I'd have before. The meat had a similar taste to chili almost?
Apparently the reason the food was very different was because (stolen from website):
Situated in the western region of China rich in history, the ancient city of Xi'an is known as the first capital of China, and the resting place of the famous terra cotta soldiers. Having once been the starting point of the Silk Road, Xi'an celebrates its diversity and boasts a unique cuisine that may be best described as a fusion of Middle Eastern and Chinese foods.
So yes - Amazing. I HIGHLY recommend going out to Flushing if anyone is visiting NYC. Manhattan is pretty bland and chain stored out these days, the outer boroughs are the interesting place to visit now.
Oh and afterward we went to a bakery and got a red bean pastry and almond tea. Both were fantastic. I'm now obsessed with trying to recreate the almond tea.
We did a quick walking tour through Flushing after we ate and checked out some of the historical sites. I was hoping our walk would make us hungry enough for round two but alas, it didn't work.
That is my very long update. Thanks for asking.

OMG Cassie that sounds fantastic. I'm glad you had a great time. I'm totally jealous of your red bean pasrty!
I love trying different foods-and like spicy stuff-maybe not as spicy as you like!
That sounds like a fabulous time! MMM Almond tea!
