Weekend Get away recs?

Hi ladies, our one year anniversary is coming up but we don't have much vacation time right now so were thinking of going some where for the weekend to celebrate. Any suggestions that are not too far from Cincinnati? Thank you ladies

Re: Weekend Get away recs?

  • Friends of ours just spent a weekend at the Murphin Ridge Inn in Adams County (about an hour or so from Cincy). It's a B&B with adorable cabins. Nearby is hiking and Amish country. I haven't been there myself but our friends said it was the perfect weekend away.

  • I was also going to suggest Murphin Ridge.  I haven't been there but I've heard realy good things about it.  I don't think they have many TVs which would keep some people away (although it shouldn't, in my opinion).

If that's not your style, you could always do a weekend in Nashville or Chicago, two of my favorite drive-to cities from here.

There's also a place in Indiana that is great for a getaway.  Hopefully "noapetrock" will jump in since I know she went there on her honeymoon and has said good things about it.

  • I second Chicago. That's always our choice when we find ourselves iwth a weekend free. I recommend using Hotwire to book a last minute hotel deal. We have had great luck getting 4 and 5 star hotels for under $100 a night.

Also, I hear great things about Hocking Hills. Friends of ours get a cabin and say it has a hot tub and is in walking distance to trails. If you have a pet, they say most cabins are also pet friendly.

  • Maybe Mammoth Cave? DH and I went there a few years back and had a great time...I think it's about 5 hours by car.

  • I would suggest Murphin Ridge Inn on their chef alone. She is great!

H and I love going to Louisville. There is lots to do. Good hotels. Great food. Plus it is less than 2 hours away

We went to West Baden Spa in Indiana - it's about an hour & a half away and is the sister hotel to French Lick. If you want a super lazy, massage - nice dinner, long walk, maybe some golf, maybe some gambling - then that would be the thing to do. There's not much else going on around there although we did see some kayaking nearby but didn't get to check it out. If you're interested in it and are thinking of French Lick v. West Baden - West Baden is MUCH nicer to stay in and you can use facilities at both. There's a shuttle between them.

That being said, we always have a great time in Nashville when we go - always something different to do.

  • I triple Chicago. Or even go down to the Smokies.
