i can't believe this actually happened, but i lost my wedding rings. or you could actually say that they were lost then stolen. dumb ass me took them off in a restaurant bathroom to wash my hands and use the lotion, then forgot them sitting on the counter. remembered 10 minutes later and they were gone. no one had come to the manager about it yet. and i KNOW that someone picked them up - crime of opportunity. this was in Charleston and we filed a police report, but i know they won't turn up. i'm so distraught over this and feeling like the biggest piece of crap, although DH is being so nice about it.
it's insured and i have questions about that whole process. if anyone knows about this (on our homeowners policy) please give me some guidance. i'll contact our insurance company in a few days after the police report is on file.
Re: :(
let me get some opinions on something. i wanted to post a lost/found ad on Craigslist, but DH thinks its a bad idea. he said someone might try selling it on there and we should keep looking that way instead, so we don't want to scare them off by posting an ad.
so if this person does end up with a guilty conscience and tries to do the right thing, what would they most likely do? take it to the police station??
we're hoping that it'll turn up in the Charleston area, maybe in a pawn shop. but if the theif was from out of town then there's no hope at all. i pretty much know it won't be found though.
I don't have any advice, but I wanted to say that I'm really sorry! I would be upset too.... *really* upset.
I hope something comes out of this for you... preferably that you find the person who took your rings and you get them back.
That really sucks. I'm sorry
I'd call your homeowner's insurance and see if you can file a claim, though I'm not sure you'd be able to since this happened while on vacation.
I'm so sorry Katie, that really sucks! What kinds of questions did you have about your insurance? I lost (or maybe had stolen) the diamond pendant DH gave me as a wedding gift and we filed a claim with our insurance company to have it replaced.
ETA: We did not file a report, because we're not sure if it was lost or stolen, but the insurance company didn't require a report.
oh god, i hope it doesn't matter that i was out of town when it happened.
i just called a pawn shop down there and talked with a lady who told me all about how the police process works with stolen goods. i hope this awful person tries to pawn it in Charleston. if that's the case, then i might have a chance to get it back.
I'm sorry that you lost your rings. I hope they are able to catch the person, or at least that you don't have to go through a bunch of hassle to get them replaced.
I am so sorry this happened Katie! I wish people were more honest out there but given this economy people are desperate! Anyways, I lost my wedding band about 2 yrs after our wedding. We had them insured with our homeowners insurance and they were very nice about it, I just had to file a statement over the phone that it was lost and such and they sent a check out the next day to cover the cost of the ring, however we bought in 05 before platinum sky rocketed so sadly I did not find a similar ring for the same price I paid in 05 however it was pretty close....about $400 difference.
Good luck!
OH NO. Just don't beat yourself up over it. The rings are replaceable and it sounds like your DH is being loving and understanding through all of this and that's the best you could ask for.
Good Luck Hun!
