Clothing complaint

Ok, I really don't have a lot to complain about clothes wise. I'm very lucky that I have a fast metabolism and I live in a city with a lot of stylistic freedom . . . however, do we have to make dresses so short?! I have the world's longest thighs. If a dress is mid-thigh on on person, it's quarter thigh on me. I'm looking for a dress for J's reunion and I tried on a few yesterday. Even J thought they were inappropriate and normally he is all about short skirts.

My somewhatgenerousbum doesn't help either, but I still think it's the skirt's fault.

What's your fashion pet peeve?

Re: Clothing complaint

  • I hate short dresses as well.  I also hate short shirts.  I have a long mid-section and I feel like shirts that are regular on most people are tummy shirts on me.

  • Pants in general are a pain for me. No matter what size I get they are way too long, which really bothers me because I'm not really short (5'4"). And with my huge booty, I always have to get pants bigger to fit my legs and booty.
  • Are you reading my mind?... I just thought-hm, gonna be warm Sunday... what am I wearing to church?... went on ATL and saw the cute dresses were SHORT!!! I am so not ready to show these legs!

And I love the longer shirts---I have a long mid-section, too!  Long tank tops, long tshirts... long etc... or it looks like I went from boobs to belly!

hm.  may have to dig out an ole skirt... or wear capris and not be so 'fancy'...

  • Not all fat women are short too. I have a long torso, long arms, and a 31 ish inseam and everything is just too short on me. Sleeves are too short (long = 3/4 on me) and tops end way too high, and pants tend to be a tad too short for my taste.

  • I hate pants!

I'm tall and very UN-curvy.  So have to find boyish pants that are long and straight which is SOOOO hard.  I can never find pants that fit my small butt and lack of hips  but are still long enough ugh!

  • I am pear shaped, if I can find pants to fit my butt and hips I can stuff seven more people in the waist with me.  Seriously you can only tighten a belt so much before you look like you are really wearing a potato sack.

Oh and the short shorts.  I am tired of the only ones I can find that aren't super short are grandma shorts and I really don't want to wear elastic polyester for the summer.  So for now I have taken to wearing alot of spring/summer dresses.

  • Code - I saw long shorts at Old Navy this weekend and nearly squealed. FINALLY.
  • There are a lot of clothing options out there to help you look like an hourglass, but when you are one...it's hard to dress.  I have a small waist compared to my hips and chest.  So, I can buy things that accommodate my waist, but then I look like I'm trying too hard.  Or I can buy things to accommodate everything else, but I lose my waist and look bigger overall.  Button up shirts just pull across my chess and gap open.  Pants are always too tight in the thighs and too big at the top.  And I'm petite, but petite pants can be too short on me after they're washed and dried.  Really my best bet is to go for 40's or 50's inspired clothing.

I know I should get things tailored, but who has that kind of money, really?

    I know!

I always have a problem with pants....they're always really tight in my thighs and fit fine elsewhere, but go a size up and they look bad.  I've had to stop wearing button down shirts because they just don't fit comfortably on me...I don't have a large chest, but I'm broad, so the buttons don't lay well.  It's also really easy for my waist to get lost in clothes, so I look baggy and dumpy.

For real!  I hate when that is their suggestion on What Not to Wear!

  • My issue is similar to Aria's.  I have a tiny waste but with my DDD/E boobs, noone would ever know.  The things that would accent a small waste, I have to get three sizes bigger to accomadate my chest and then I am wearing a tent or smaller makes me spill out over the top.  Button ups are a joke and usually aren't long enough for me anyway.  I'm tall with long legs and a long torso.  Sleeve length sucks so I opt for 3/4 sleeves but then sometimes they hit akwardly in my elbow pit.

As for pants, longs are too long and regulars are too short. Because of the long legs, skirts these days make me look like a desperate 16 year old and shorts are just a joke.  If I wear long shorts for some reason they make me look wider.  I usually opt for a safe pair of capris in the summer time regardless of whether they are in style anymore or not.

  • I agree about the tailoring bs on WNTW! If I had the money for the clothes on that show AND tailoring, I'd be set.

Pants are my biggest issue. I have a pretty straight figure, so I usually end up in the jr section for jeans because women's pants are meant for people with SOME hips. BUT jr pants are mostly low rise/juvenile and I can't pull that off anymore. It's a lose-lose situation. I don't think I've had a single pair of jeans that I loved in my whole life. *tiny violin*
