Design Your Perfect Weekdays

My husband and I were talking about this over the weekend, because I'm not exactly digging where I'm at/headed in life career and homewise. So he asked me to do some soul searching. Instead, I'm turning it into a Nest poll ;)

If you could describe your perfect Monday-Friday routine, what would your day(s) look like?

Assume that, yes, you have to work some type of a job/money-making venture into this. And if you think your schedule is already perfect, then just post that.

I've discovered that I kind of hate routine. So for me, it's more about how I would spend certain number of hours each day doing things, regardless of time. Here's what I think my perfect Monday-Friday would be like (I'm factoring in all 24 hours):

8 hours of sleep per night.

4-5 hours working on writing (either a column or a novel = $$$, #1)

2-3 hours working on crafts (either digital or otherwise, sold via web = $$$, #2)

1 hour working out -- gym or walking or something

2 hours saved for appointments or social engagements, if necessary

3 hours for errands and/or housekeeping duties

1-2 hours for cooking/baking and other meal duties

1-2 hours of "whatever" time (reading, television, spending time with DH)

Minimum Hours = 22; Maximum Hours = 26...it'd balance, I'm sure

The hard part is that writing and/or selling crafts don't exactly make tons of money, especially right off the bat. The thing I love about the prospect of them, though, is the flexibility.

What would your "perfect weekdays" look like?

Re: Design Your Perfect Weekdays

  • 11p-7a: Sleep

7a-8a--Get dressed, quick breakfast, commute to work (In a perfect world, it would take me ten minutes or less to get to work)

8a-4p--Work 7 hour day, with an hour for lunch. Preferably using lunch to meet up with friends, read, or cross-stitch

4p-5:30--Go home and spend QT w/Rufus (usually dog park)

    5:30-7:30--Gym & shower

7:30-11--Make dinner, watch tv, spend time with DH

I guess the only real differences between now and ideal is my lengthy commute cutting into my sleeping and Rufus time, as well as having to work the full 8 hours.  By the time I get home from the gym, it's after 8, and dinner is rushed. I'd just like that little extra time to slow down and relax a bit.

We have so much time, and so little to do! Strike that, reverse it.

  • 10-6 Sleep

    6-7 Workout

    7-8 Shower/get dressed

    8-1 Work (from home)

    1-6 Go shopping, beach, relax

6 Dinner made by someone besides myself

    7-9 Errands, movies, etc

    Reality:

    9 pm Iron outfit

    10-11 pm attempting to sleep

    11-7:45 sleep

7:45-8:40 Shower, get ready and drive to work

    9-5 Work and eat breakfast

    6 Dinner

    7-9 Errands, movies, etc

  • My weekdays would improve dramatically if I could work from home... and could break for a couple hours mid-day.  Right now, I feel like I waste so much time.  Assuming that would be the case my schedule would be something like this...

6:30a - wake up, breakfast, check the internet/email/blogs, work

10a - gym for an hour

11a - shower, lunch, back to work

5p - shut off computer, fold the laundry, spend some time with DH, take the dogs for a walk

6p - make dinner, clean the kitchen, watch tv, blog, etc.

    10p - go to bed

  • Ideal:

    7:30 am wake up

    8:30 leave for work

    9 - 4:30 work including lunch

    4:30 - 5 drive home

    6 - dinner

    7 - 10:30 - time with family, friends, etc.

    11 - 7:30 - sleep

    Reality

    6 - 6:45 am snooze alarm

    7:30 leave for work

    8:30 - 5:30/6 work with 1 hr. lunch

    6:30 - 7 get home from work

8:30 dinner with DH who is just arriving home from work

    9 - 10:30 - try to unwind so I can fall asleep before 11

  • Not trying to be a brat, but mine is already pretty darn close to perfect.

I stay at home and play with the babies, do some DIYs, paint, write the blog, write an average of one magazine article per month (I could handle more at this point). Go to the mall whenever I want, which is only 2 miles away, take the kids to lunch, shopping at Target (of course!)--basically I have the entire day free with no schedule restraints whatsoever. Yes, I have to make sure things are done around the house--cooking, cleaning, laundry etc...but that's easy. When the kids are in school, I will definitely make it a point to go back to doing Bikram yoga every day, but that will happen then. I want to spend every precious second with them when they're little!! And, I am really thankful I get to do that.
