Shoe

Did you prepare meals and freeze them before Norah was born? If so, did it help out, is it worth taking the time to do?

Re: Shoe

  • Yes and yes!  MrShoe made a lasagna, lots of spaghetti sauce, meatballs and hamburger patties.  My FIL also brought us some stuffed chickens from a butcher shop that are easy to just throw in the oven.  It's been so convenient to just pull something out the freezer.

Believe me, cooking dinner will be the last thing you or D will want to do at the end of the day!

I ran to Maxwell's Market and loaded my friend's freezer with their frozen entrees when she had her baby.  So if you're like me and don't cook much, this is also an option.

  • Ditto Shoe, you're not gonna want to cook.  We lucked up and some friends and family brought some meals, so that lasted about a week.  We had frozen some stuff like jambalaya, spaghetti sauce (all lightly seasoned) and soups.  We also ate a lot of sandwiches during that time.

  • Thanks Shoe! I think we are going to do a couple of lasagnas, enchiladas, not sure what else. I just didn't want to waste time doing it, if it wasn't worth it. Sounds like it's definitely a good thing to do.

I wish I could do this! I have to eat gluten-free so anything we do I have to make from scratch. My MIL swears by the Maxwell's oven meals.

Jambalaya sounds good. Is it hard to freeze though?

VERY easy to freeze.  Just cook as normal, put in ziploc bags and squeeze all the air out.  Defrost and reheat in the microwave.

  • I was leary of making all this food too but you'll appreciate it in the weeks to come.  We also have had a couple different people bring us food which has been great.  Frozen soup is my BFF for lunch.  And ditto Christen to go light on the seasoning.  Especially anything spicy.  My girl didn't care for the gumbo I had about a week after she was born because it was just too spicy.

? I am pretty darn sure you didn't give her gumbo do the spiced travel through your system?

Anything I eat gets to her through my breast milk.  Spicy foods usually do a number on babies tummies.

  • Yep, I was gonna add that about keeping the food not super spicy if you plan on BFing. Also, go easy on the beans. My babies had major gas/tummy issues and the doctor started asking me what I had been eating...I had no idea the chili I was eating was causing them tummy issues!
