Easter Plans?

We're not going anywhere, not seeing any family... sigh. P. has an exam on Monday which is why he didn't want to make the 5 hour (one way) drive back to Ottawa. I get it, but I'm a little bummed. We've had Easters by ourselves before, but they were when we were in Japan. I don't really know what to do with myself/what to cook!

Re: Easter Plans?

  • DH and I have never spent Easter together so this will be something different.  My unit decided that since we are all so far away from home, why not have a bbq.  So we are having a potluck/bbq with an Easter egg hunt for the kids.  Hopefully it will be a good time - with hopefully good weather.

  • We extended family-less, too, this year, which kinda caught us off guard.  My parents are travelling abroad (in 2 different places no less; my mom went home for a funeral and my dad is with his family for my grandfather's 95th birthday); MHs parents are snowbirds so they're somewhere south and warm; and my brother and his family have plans with their friends.  We were a little miffed that my bro and family didn't have time for us, but I get it - their friends have kids the same age as thier kids, blah blah.  It's just a bummer b/c we live here to be near family, and I guess we just didn't get our acts together to organize something for the family (granted my mom had to go).  So I don't know what we're going to do.  I told MH I'd cook whatever he wanted.
  • when I lived away from home there were lots of holidays that I couldn't fly home for - we often got together with friends (and since it was AZ we could usually just bbq poolside).

As a family we usually go to a buffet brunch together but this year I'm actually hosting dinner at my house.  Planning the menu now.  I won't actually be cooking everything - my mom, g'ma, and aunts will all be bringing something.

My FIL is flying in for the weekend to meet Jack so he will be here as well.

  • we've lived away from family for a long time now and usually spend Easter by ourselves..it's not so bad.  this year we have the ILs coming to spend it with A though...they are going to be w/us for a week.  we'll probably have a nice Easter dinner but otherwise we have no big plans. i am actually looking fwd to it b/c i know i'll be able to hand her off to the grandparents and know that she will get lots of good attention while i take care of odds and ends that have been neglected :) i know that sounds kind of bad but i could use the break :)
  • Apparently we're going to Ben's parents' house. No real surprise there (his mother likes to spend EVERY holiday together, even the piddly little ones, so Christmas/Easter/etc. are a given).

I kind of wish we weren't going. Honestly I just want to stay at home. Maybe I'll feel different once the weekend hits. Blah.
