Have you ever: Leased a car?

Have you ever leased a car and turned it in? We are in the process of turning in a truck that we leased for 3 years with about 30K on it, but they are dinging us on such little things including wanting us to get a new set of tires. Does this sound right to any of you? We are going to request the lease agreement to see if that requirement is in there. TIA!

That sucks. I leased a car for 3 years when I was in college. I was totally expecting them to look at every little thing when I turned it back it, but they barely glanced it over. I guess it depends on the dealership?

  • I leased a car in high school/college and had no trouble turning it in.  That could be because I turned around and leased another car from them though?  I thought they'd nitpick the car to death, but a simple once over and they were done.  Let us know how it works out!

  • Usually if you are turning the car in for another car they don't knitpick, but if you are just turning it, they will. At least from what I've experienced in the past.
  • You'd lthink Toyota would cut a little slack, but we are going to have to see. Crossing fingers they go easy and we don't have to pay what they asked. Thanks ladies!
  • i'm on my first ever lease and turn my car in at the end of the summer. so i guess i'll learn from some of your experience. but in my case, i'm pretty sure i'm buying out my lease.

and i will never lease again after this.

  • are they being picky over other wear and tear besides the tires? i have a small crack (had it filled, but still visible) in my windsheild and some slight scratches/scuffs on the plastic parts on the interior.
  • They are being a little too picky about things as well (small crack on plate) if you ask me - but it could be because we are not buying the truck. I'm sure you'll be fine since you'll be purchasing yours.

My DH turned in his lease in August.  They let him slide on the tires, they were very close to needing to be replaced according to his tread wear guidelines.  The only thing we had to pay was for some scratches/wear on his bumper, which the guy said came from DH lugging his golf clubs in and out.  I thought that was kind of ridiculous.

DH also bought a cargo cover for the back of his SUV- they don't give you any money off, or take those back.  So even though we don't have the car, we now have the cover hanging out in our garage.
