Wondering about Risktaker sports people...
Ok...so i'm watching this Nat Geo show about the 1996 around the world solo sailboat race where 5 of the 6 competitor's boats capsized and needed rescue in a very remote part of the world somwheres between Austrailia and the South Pole. They were so remote that an Austrailian Navy ship took 4 days to get there. These were TINY boats...I wouldn't set foot on one even in one of the Great Lakes - let alone the ocean.
Who pays for that rescue? I'm betting those idiots who sailed into a storm (all for the glory of sailing around the world solo) in the boonies of the ocean didn't get the bill.
Also...wondering about the Mt. Everest rescues and wilderness hiker rescues too...

I'm sure the government of whatever country rescues them pays for it. Maybe they get billed eventually, like the balloon boy family did?
I think off our coast the Coast Guard would do that sort of rescue. I'm sure our tax dollars end up paying for it.
