So... It looks like I may have an opportunity for a promotion to move to the Philadelphia area. Crazy, right? Lots of things to think about, especially with the baby on the way.
I think a few of you girls are from that area so I thought I would check to see if I could get some advice. The company is located in Fort Washington. I'm wanting to do some research on places to live and such to get an idea of the cost of living out there. What is nearby (town wise) that would be less than a 30 minute commute and be affordable and family friendly? Thoughts?

Fort Washington is about 20 min. away from me (no traffic).
Some nearby towns that would be great for a family - Fort Washington itself, Horsham/Hatboro (as Mamie suggested), Willow Grove, Ambler (houses can be hit or miss - has some VERY Nice houses $$$, but then there is also some dives - DH and I have looked into living in this area), Blue Bell/Plymouth Meeting is also a very nice area. I'm in Conshohocken, and I love it, great area, but may be a little bit of a drive.
Log onto www.everyhome.com (you shouldn't need a log in, if you do, log in Special, and the password Client). And check out Montgomery County.
What type of living conditions would you be looking at? Apartment? Condo? Town Home? Single? From my experience (as H and I have somewhat been looking), Single homes (Nice Single Homes, in Nice Area's), are probably upwards of $200,000.
If there is a specific area you have a question about, please let me know! I've grown up in this area my whole life.
Also - congrats on the possible promotion!
I also suggest homes in East/West Norriton. Depending on how long you will be in the area - I say this b/c while the area is cute - the school district sucks. You have to becareful of Norristown in general - has some shady spots.
Thanks for the suggestions! I have a one on one to speak with the hiring manager tomorrow.... just wanted to get an idea of what the living situation would be first. Its good to have some names of towns I can check out! I've only been to the area once but I remember the Fort Washington area being really nice. I guess if I head out for an interview I may need to do some house hunting!
Our ideal situation would be a single family home. We have Daisy and that would make condo or townhome living kind of a challenge since she is huge and likes to run around outside. We live in a very reasonably priced area (our brand new home was $140K a few years ago) so I am prepared to pay more. Just have to figure out if the increase in salary would be enough to offset the higher mortage and tax payments!
