Moving back to BR!

After living in Orange County, CA for 4 long, long, LONG years my husband and I and our 2 year old daughter are moving back to BR.  I'm so excited and happy because all of our family is in Louisiana and my best friends are too!

So, in our search to find a home, we're realizing how much has changed since we left.  We moved in late 2006 and at the time we lived off of Millerville in Hunter's Lake subdivision.  We are looking for a home to lease for about a year and then at that time we'll be interested in building a new home.

In the meantime, the other priority is finding childcare for our 2 year old. So, if you guys have any suggestions I'd appreciate any and all advice.  Also, if you guys know of any good gyms or work out facilities I'd love to hear your thoughts on that, too!

Re: Moving back to BR!

  • I'm not familiar with that part of BR, so no help there. I just wanted to say welcome to the board!

As for gyms, you can page Bear on this board, he works for a local gym. I'm sure he can give you some good info!

  • You've posted here a couple times about moving back, i'm glad that it's finally happening for you. As far as Millerville area goes there are a lot of rentals in that neck of the woods (well as of 6 months ago). I don't think you'll have a problem, plus the Target and Best Buy there make it SO convienent. can't help on the other two fronts.
    Good luck on the move!!!

  • I do have some child care suggestions, but I would wait to find out specifically where you'll be living and working first.

  • Welcome back!

I live near Millerville and like the area. And I LIVE at that Target!

BR Parents Magazine will have a Childcare Directory listing in our May issue. If you won't be here yet, I can let you know when it goes online!

Good luck and welcome back to the dirty south.

  • Hello and welcome back!  I was going to recommend using the BR Parents childcare resource as well but you'll definitely want to take where you live into consideration.  Here's the link to the 2009 one:

My friend lives in Hunter's Lake; they love it there.  Anyway, I'd look on craigslist and the advocate for a rental.  That whole area has grown a lot but in a good way.  The only downside is the I-12 commute but as I'm sure you know, traffic is just inevitable everywhere in the city.  Pretty much anywhere in Area 4 is a nice place to live or so I think.

Bally is the place to be for working out.  It's in Perkins Rowe.  The only other places sticking out in my mind at the moment are Foxy's and Spectrum.

HTH!  Let us know if you need anything else!

  • Ditto, Shoe. Bally is the place to be. Of course I'm biased. I'm a director there.
