::Poll:: Dreaming about a vacation...
Tell me about your favorite vacation (not including your DW) and least favorite.
Re: ::Poll:: Dreaming about a vacation...
My favorite vacation was the first "alone" one with DH. It was the most perfect trip ever to Jamaica. We had the best time and that's why we choose to get married there.
My least favorite trip was to Las Vegas/Arizona with MIL and SFIL. They're seriously BSC and it was just miserable. I won't going into all of the crazy details but Vegas was good (I
Vegas) but then we drove around Arizona for 4 days. Definitely not my idea of a vacation. Like we would "go" to a town but really just drove through. We didn't do anything while we were there. Spending 4 days in a car is not my cup of tea.
My favorite vacation was our trip to St. Lucia in 2008. We had been to Jamaica the summer before and had a blast which is why we booked our trip to St. Lucia while we were still there. I had over a year to look forward to it and the island and the resort were ever more amazing than Jamaica. At dinner on our second night there, Brian proposed during a private candlelight dinner on the beach. It just made the entire trip even more incredible.
I don't think I really have a least favorite vacation. Any vacation is pretty great in my book.
Most favorite - as much as I love Hawaii, I am going to have to go with Dominica in 2007. I enjoyed this trip because it was an adventure, the weather was perfect, and we got to do some really cool things. We went on a 12 mile (round trip) guided hike to a boiling lake through the mountains and geothermal features - our guide taught us a lot on the way and we were able to sit in a little hot spring fed pool, use volcanic clay on our faces, and the whole area was gorgeous. During this trip we also snorkeled in a place called champagne reef - geothermal activity causes bubbles to rise in the water. The island was so lush and had gorgeous waterfalls and wasn't super touristy. People were super friendly too.
Worst vacation - a family vacation back when I was 14 or so to Chicago. The city itself is fine - but my parents decided we'd just find a hotel when we got there - and that proved to be not so easy within our budget and we ended up at a fairly scary place the first night. Also, my brother gets car sick and we had to stop downtown, where we weren't supposed to be parked, so my parents could clean it up. I also remember my brother needing to stop at a scary looking place for a bathroom. The whole trip wasn't planned out well, and my family learned to stick to the national parks!
My favorite trip would probably be when I went to Playa del Carmen with my family. It was so beautiful down there and was very relaxing.
My least favorite would be a family trip we took to Wililamsburg VA. I probably disliked it so much because I was in 4th grade and it wasn't very kid friendly at the time.
Best vacation: This is tough because I generally just
vacations so much! Hmm... well I'm going with Paris for 2 weeks from the end of Dec. 08 - beginning Jan. 09. It's was the first "alone" vacation for DH & I, and we did get engaged there. That's not really why I picked it though. Paris was amazing and there are times I find myself yearning to be back there. We had so much fun. It was one of those vacations where even when things weren't ideal, it was still amazing!
We had such an amazing time there that DH & I have set a goal to be able to save up enough money to either buy a small apartment there (in the distant future), or at least save enough money so we can spend a lot of time there when we are old & gray
Worst vacation - In 2008 my family went to Lake Havasu in July. Ugh. Need I say more? Hahaha. Actually it was unseasonably hot that Summer for the area. It was literally 120 degrees. Even the locals were dying. Plus my parents have an RV, but they went to a campground where there was no covering for the RV to park under, and no electrical hook-ups. Which means that the poor little A/C was running as hard as it could, and still only "cooled" the RV to 99 degrees inside. It was miserable. DH and I actually met them out there and got a motel room, and even with our A/C on in the room it was still about 88 degrees in the room. It was bad. Plus on that trip I got sooooooo sunburned. After that trip I vowed never to go back at that time of the year. Well, my whole family vowed the same thing, lol. Oh! I almost forgot! The only thing you could do really was to sit outside in the shade, but there were these little flying gnat type bugs everywhere. And I mean everywhere! They would cover the windows on the RV's because they were attracted to the light. It was sooo gross. Now my family makes 2 trips a year to Havasu - once in May and once in September. June-Aug. is just miserable there.
Favorite: Austrailia with my dad in 2001 for my hs graduation present! We went in August so it was "winter" there. Sydney and Brisbane weather was 50's/60's but Cairns was in the 80's, nice and tropical and beach time! It was soo cool there, I would love to go back with DH. But that some serious $$$.
Least Favorite: So this wasn't technically a vacation but I don't think I have a least favorite one. My senior year in college I went to London for a month for a 4 week course. Well, I was homesick like no other. Don't get me wrong everyone I was with was soo nice and great. Every day, but 1 Sunday, for 28 days was scheduled with touristy things we had to do. We saw every thing ever in London. It was a bit much. I just wasn't feeling it I guess.
My most favorite vacation was my first trip out to California. We were out there for 2 weeks, I got to go to Disney Land, Venice Beach, San Diego and all sorts of places in between. Although I sweated my hiney off, I loved it...no rain, people watching ripe for the making, food awesome, and of course our trip was basically free since we won plane tix and stayed with DHs aunt.
Worst vacation was the 50th cruise we took dad on with RC. The food sucked, when you could get it. There were a few hours a day the ONLY place you could get food or a drink (and I'm talking soda) was to go back to your cabin an order room service which you had to pay for. After 10pm the only place you could get food after 10pm was a crappy pizza place by the pool that closed at like 7pm. The trip just sucked. The weather was very choppy...my poor dad was sick most of the time. Key West was great, Cozumel was great as well, Belize...I don't understand why anyone would visit that place on purpose...and the bahamas was also nice. All in all, I will NEVER go RC again and I feel bad dad got a crappy birthday present. I hope we can make it up when he turns 60 in a few years.
My favorite was our honeymoon: Traveled in Italy, Austria and Germany for 2 weeks. It was beyond amazing and fantastic, Saw so many amazing places, ate fabulous food, drank awesome wine & beer, etc, etc.
Worst vacation: I can't think of any right now. I always feel like it's going to be the wrost when we start out b/c every time I fly with Christian, our flight gets messed up/cancelled, whatever. He flies every week for his job and never has anyhting happen. Think I am his bad luck charm when flying, lol.
My favorite vacation was the first big trip DH and I took alone. We went to visit family in Atlanta, then drove to Charleston, SC for a few days. It was so beautiful there! Then we went to Myrtle Beach for a few more days. Then we drove through the mountains and back home. I think that trip in a way cemented our relationship as a couple.
My worst vacation was probably the weekend trip DH and I took to Chicago for my birthday. DH surprised me with the trip, and we were supposed to take the train there and back. I've taken the train several times and it's no big deal. Something happened with the trains and we waited at the train station all. day. long. then finally at 3 or 4 in the afternoon they decide that they are going to bus us up there. It was awful and we lost a whole day in Chicago because of it. Then the second night we were there DH got a horrible migraine and spent the night in the fetal position with a pillow over his head, so that sucked. The rest of the trip was wonderful though! I love Chicago and have been there many times. Needless to say, I don't think I'll ever get DH to take the train up there again.
My favorite vacation has been San Francisco with DH. It was the first one that he let control go a little and be spontaneous. Nothing was planned other than the hotel and our alcatraz tickets since they would have sold out. We chose every meal and every activity on the fly. DH and I had so much fun.
My least favorite vacations would have to be any road trip with my mom. All our vacations when we were younger basically consisted of us tagging along while her and the other adults had fun. She would promise us things and not follow through and lie to us. So when my sister, brother and I would go, we expected to dread the entire trip. And we usually weren't disappointed.
It's a toss up for me! Between our 1st trip to Aruba & our 3rd! Both special in different ways!
Our 1st trip, was special b/c of course it was our 1st trip together. It was also the reason I lost my job at UPS Ha! (story in Bio if you haven't heard it before) and we met some great people whom we are still very good friends with today! We spent the entire week with these people and had one of the best vacations we have ever had!
Our 3rd trip we went with some of our best friends. 6 of us (3 couples) shared a timeshare and we had an AWESOME time! DH & I also got engaged during this trip which made it even more awesome that some of our closest friends were there to share the memories with us!!
Both trips inspired us to get married there b/c Aruba just sort of became "our place".
