cabo san lucas??

Has anbody been to cabo san lucas? DH & I thinking of going there for our babymoon. We are going to my cousin's wedding in LA this coming June so we thought we'll plan our babymoon around it. Do you have any recs on where to stay/what to do in Cabo?

Thanks!

Re: cabo san lucas??

  • Too funny E, we JUST booked our trip to Cabo a week or so ago... it's our babymoon as well as a family vacation with my parents, brother, SIL, etc.  We are staying at the Pueblo Bontio Sunset Beach (SIL's brother works there and we are getting an incredible deal).  I haven't been to Mexico (or Cabo) in years so I'm really excited to go back.

  • That's so funny! When are you going?? I wanted to do a Baja cruise from Cali but the cruise schedules don't work for us. DH suggested that we just fly straight to Cabo and stay there for a few days before we go to the wedding. Sounds good to me :-). I have not done much research so I have no idea where to stay there. If you go before us, then you can give me your recs!! :-).
  • Yes, we leave in under 2 weeks now!  Talk about an unplanned/last minute trip, unusual for me :)  I'll definitely give you some recs.  We really lucked out with pricing for the PB Sunset Beach and it has great reviews on Trip Advisor (the forums too).  I've been lurking there for some feedback as I don't really know much about Mexico anymore either.  My last trip there was back in 2004, to Cancun.  Ian said last night that he'd rather go to HI and I agree but it will be nice to have a change of scenery.  Besides, our last trip to HI was so go, go, go that we never really relaxed so his only request was that we don't do much in Mexico (beach, swim, sleep, etc.)... sounds good to me!  This resort is in Cabo but off the beaten path, about 20 mins from "town" I think.  I'll definitely keep you posted.

  • If Jeff had his way, we'll go to Hawaii also. As much as I love Hawaii, I want to go somewhere else! lol We've been going there pretty much every year for the past 6 yrs lol. The place where you are staying looks nice. I also don't wanna do much. I just want to RELAX coz we may not be able to do that for a long time after the baby arrives lol.

Oh wow, you'll leave soon. Yay! I'm definitely looking forward to your recs.

  • I've been to Cabo many times. I've stayed in resorts there, been there just for a day on cruises and I've been there for work on over night layovers. Cabo is nice but it would not b first on my list of places to visit. If you are into sport fishing or golfing then it's the place for u! Know that there are only a few swimable beaches there. The water there is REALLY danderous. I've had 2 flights I've worked from cabo where one of my passengers party died while there and they were histerical the whole plane ride. I've had COUNTLESS flights were people got broken legs etc while there.

Another thing to consider is the drug war that is happening there. It's scary stuff, esp since the tourist part of cabo is an hour ride from the airport through the desert. My airline sent out a letter to all of us employees highly discouraging us from visiting mexico right now. My girlfriend had a layover there and along with the van driver to take the crew to the hotel there was an armed security gaurd with a machine gun following them!

If you do go, I would stay close to your resort and if you do go off resort property go w/a group of people. Be safe & have fun whatever you do!

  • i have been there before and I would be on the same page as Julie-I did have a great time but was on a surfing trip.  Also-for what it is I find cabo very very expensive-there are some beautiful great hotels but the actual city itself is sort of seedy so you end up staying at the resorts-also not the safest place right now. Also in june it will be very very very hot-a dry relentless heat.  Honestly if you want to go somewhere different I would go to mainland mexico to the punta mita area-so beautiful and relaxing there and better bang for your buck.  just my 2 cents.  on a separate note-when are you in la?  perhaps a quick meeting?

    Thanks!

Yes, I recommend you take me Cool

  • I visited my girlfriend that lives there in January so my experience is definitely not on a resort, although the resorts that we visited were quite nice.  I'd go again if I were staying at a full service resort, or to visit my friend obviously, but I can't say it's high on my must-visit list.  I by NO means want to be a downer, but it is a bit seedy as was mentioned, and I was ready to pummel the beach vendors for asking me 8000 times if I wanted to buy the same stuff.  IMO, it wasn't as scenic as I expected, but we were also staying in San Jose and had to make the 30 minutes drive to Cabo from there.  If you stay at a resort I think you could easily have a phenomenal experience.
  • Hi Ericka, when Tara told us that she was going to Cabo here soon, I couldn't be more happier for her.  I LOVE CABO!!  But I also lived in So.Cal my whole life and Cabo is a very popular place for us in San Diego.  Very quick flight.  Having been many places in the world, I can easily call that place one of the most fun I've ever had.  But it was fun because we partied and we partied hard.  Cheap beer and tacos, can't be beat.  But seeing as you won't be able to do that the same way as we did, then your experience may be a tad different.  As far as the drug issues go, its really more the border towns that are having the biggest issues.  But if I can make a suggestion, seeing as you will go for a baby moon..........have you been to Cancun?  Out of those two, I find Cancun to have more to offer.  Since the hurricane hit it years back, it had to re-do the city and I must say, I was pretty impressed, especially for Mexico.  The all-inclusive resorts are the way to go.  The water is much better and low key.  Easy to stand in unlike Cabo.

  • No Cabo feedback, but if you and Alix are able to set up a quick meeting, I would love to crash it!
  • thanks for the insight about Cabo. now, you're making me thin twice about going there :-/. actually, we're open to anything. we just wanted to go somewhere!!! lol. any other recs on places we can go since we'll already be on the west coast? we wanted to go somewhere we can relax.

Beth/Alix- would love to meet up. I'll have a better idea on what our schedule looks like once we've finalized the babymoon :-).
