Yowzers! I went to pay my mortgage the other day to have a lovely surprise that our taxes have gone up (again). It is craziness!
Did anyone else's taxes go up this year?
Re: Holy tax hike!

M- we escrow too, but the evaluation comes in Feb./March. So with the hike, we wouldn't have enough escrowed in. So they have to divide it up for the next year.
I know, our county in general is so high. I can't wait to move in a few years.
We're about the same as you. It's ridiculous. K always says for what we pay in school taxes we should be able to send the dogs ;-) My house in CA in only 1/3 of what we pay here.
Sux, right? And i agree about the school taxes. Thank goodness we won't be here long enough to have a kid in our school system anyway.
Our mortgage went up but for a different reason, Allstate increased our homeowner's insurance by 25% for no reason.
Our house is assessed high too. I recently found out it was because some how our house is listed as being 200 more sq. feet than it is and supposedly has a finished attic, which is does not. Its fixed now, but I wish there was a way to recoup the bloated taxes paid for the last 6 years we have been living here.
Can't wait to move back to NC. An insanely high property tax bill there is like 1800 lol. And people keep saying "but the schools suck down there". Well I went there and I turned out OK and maybe even smarter than half the people that I know up here
You are so fabulous! :-)
When we went down to NC two years ago to look at houses (in hopes that we could sell ours) the realtor we met with nearly fell off her chair when I told her what we pay in taxes. My sister lives in Louisiana and pays UNDER $1000 a year for her taxes. NY is just riduculously insane!
My taxes are over $8k a year. It is sickening. AND I got our assessment lowered $45k when we moved in!!! When I was a Realtor, I would talk to people from out of state and they were absolutely amazed when they saw the taxes!
Our high taxes provide us with nice benefits though, like beautifully maintained state parks, oh wait, a bunch of those are closing. Well, low price admission to remaining parks, oh my bad, that cost is going up too. Well, we have great programs like Early intervention, ooops, they are going to charge for that too. Hmmm...
Our home owners also went up this year by like 20%.
