Any one taken Yaz?

I just started Yaz yesterday due to irregular periods caused by a cyst. All I read online is negitive things about it, has anyone had positive effects from it? Also if you had bad effects on it how long did they take to start?

The reason I am asking is because I the only reason I am on this pill is to get my periods regular for about 10 months before TTC, so I could easily stop if needed. (and the reason my Dr put me on Yaz is because after talking he thinks I may have PMDD).

Yesterday 4 hours after taking my first pill I got this really bad headache, got dizzy, really hot, and it seemed like I was in a daze for the rest of the day. Last night I woke up about 5 times and didn't sleep very well. I don't know if maybe it was just allergies since all the snow is gone around here or something to do with the pill. I took another one this morning so I will see if I get the samething.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Re: Any one taken Yaz?

  • You have only been taking it for 24 hours. You can call your doctor, but I'm sure she'll tell you to wait a full month or longer to adjust.
  • You'll probably hear horror stories about Yaz, but for me it was just the same as any birth control but I really liked how light it made my periods. Of course, my sex drive was the sacrifice, which is why I ended up going off of Yaz. Overall I liked it and really enjoyed being able to "plan" when I was going to have my period--great for vacations and my wedding. Goodluck!
  • I have been taking Yaz for a long time.  I personally love it.  It has gotten my adult acne under control (I'm 28).  I also love the shorter lighter periods and it definitely helps my mood swings.

Give it more time.  As with any prescription and even vitamins, your body has to get used to it.

  • I've been on Yaz for four or five years now because of my PCOS and like you, I'm not supposed to go off of it until TTC.

I love it because I lost weight on it (not sure if they're related) and it cleared up my skin.  It also shortened my periods by half, which is really great.  I haven't had any bad reactions to it like what you're describing, though I got those symptoms when I was on Seasonale.

About a year ago I developed some gall bladder problems, but there's no way to know for sure if that's related to the Yaz, and since you'll only be taking it for 10 months there's no reason to worry about that.

  • I have been on it 2 years now and quit taking it last week.  I have my annual tomorrow and am going to get something else.  I have gained so much weight, have nightly headaches, feel sluggish, and have horrible mood swings.  I also have not had a period since late October, and when I did it was 2 weeks long.  I only get my period every 4-5 months while on it and they are always long and heavy the whole time.  I hate it!

  • I've been on it for at least three years now, for similar reasons, and I love it. I used to have moderate acne and it cleared up, my hormones are more balanced and my period usually only lasts no more than three days, even though there's four white pills. The only issue I had was when I was trying to lose weight, I had trouble kicking the pounds off. I don't know if it had anything to do with the birth control, but I have a sneaky suspicion it does. Only problem is, when I go to see my OB/GYN in a couple months, I have to switch because she's not writing scripts for Yaz anymore :/

It really takes up to a full month for anything to really change or to start noticing any differences. But if you feel like there's too much bad stuff happening, call your doctor! Maybe they can prescribe something else.

  • I've been on it for almost 2 years. I was on something else before, but I kept spotting.  I have been in BC on and off for years (ovarian cysts and terrible periods) and the doc said a lot of patients liked it. So far so good. I can't say anything terribly wonderful - I haven't gotten PG!- or terribly awful but it works for me.

That said, I'm planning to go off in the next few month to TTC

  • I took Yaz and for the first two years it was great. I had really short periods, little/no acne, and my PMDD was almost non-existent. After two years though, my periods went crazy. They started coming a week early even though I took my pills regularly every day and then I started missing my periods all together. This never happened to me before and I have taken a few different kinds of BC pills in the past. I don't know how common this is, but it is just something to be aware of. I did not however, get pregnant so in that aspect, it worked!

  • Is there any other type of pill you could try to regulate yourself so you can TTC?  Yaz and Yasmin specifically have been named in class action lawsuits because of safety concerns.

A friend of mine also ended up in the hospital on blood thinners because of her blood clots in her lungs from Yaz / Yasmin, so it freaks me out a bit.

According to my gyno, these lawsuits are bunk.  The things included in the lawsuits can happen on any BC pill.  There's no need to stop taking Yaz because of the lawsuits.

  • I was on it for a year before I got off because we were TTC, I had previously tried the NuvaRing and it wasn't working so great anymore. I took it because I get menstrual migraines and I never had one while taking it, it also kept my face really clear and overall I felt great on it.

You will have to be on it for at least a month before your body gets adjusted to it. Everyone is different as well so it may not end up being the best for you or it may end up working perfectly. I loved it though and plan on going back on it after I have my baby.

So true... they are the same exact warnings with any BC. I will say though my cousin who is young, (22 at the time) healthy and doesn't smoke did get a PE (pulmonary embolism, or blood clot in the lung) because she was on the pill. Which she was taking Oscella(sp) the generic form. They linked it directly to the pill because she had no prior history or anything that would seem to cause it otherwise. She was on blood thinners for 6 months and in the hospital for a week. She is iine now but can't take ANY BC pill because they are all high risk to her.

You use the warnings as a caution and discuss it with your OBGYN, but it didn't stop me from taking it.

  • I was on yaz for 4 months and stopped taking it because it made me incredibly tired, very emotional, and didn't help my skin (i had acne issues). personally, i really didn't like it...
  • Thanks for everyones answer. It has made me feel better about taking Yaz. I got sick with a bad cold on Tuesday, so I am thinking that is why I was feeling sick. So hopefully it will end when I am feeling better.
