BR: what else do I need to do?

So...I have a fresh manicure and a pedicure.

My hospital bags (one for me, one for the bebbehs) are packed and in the trunk of the car.

We have enough frozen homemade meals to feed us for a week and a half.

Ben and I are going out tonight for a nice dinner and to see The Clash of the Titans (woohoo!).

Anything else I should do before I commence Operation: Get These Kids The Hell Out Of Me (featuring such classics as 'Spicy Food' and 'Sex - It's Not Just For Fun!') over the weekend? Monday marks the start of 36 weeks and as far as I'm concerned, it's eviction time.

Re: BR: what else do I need to do?

  • Sleep!Sleep :-) Sounds like you are ready to go!
  • yeah I like that idea of sleep! ;)

sounds like you are pretty set. have you had Ben help you shave your legs yet? I didn't want to stare down at my legs and be thinking I need to shave them while I was in labor so I made sure to shave when it was getting close!

LOL I did! It was the day before yesterday though, so he'll have to help me again in a day or two. Big Smile

  • Renee and Jaime have got the right idea...SLEEP!  Seriously, I know you cannot bank it or anything, but you should sleep as much as you can right now because not only will you need it for L&D but also for the days and weeks after the babies come...I am so glad that I did sleep really well the weekend before Libby's birth day.

I was also going to say shave your legs...I remember doing it the day before my induction (it was HARD to do) and then again, the day after Libby was born (yes, I brought a razor to the hospital)...what a world of difference!  LOL!

Finally, I'd say stock up on some post-delivery goodies that are not GD-friendly...the first thing I had was a grilled cheese sandwich and french fries and damn it was good!

Also, maybe a nice massage...even if it's been doing it?  There are specific pressure points in the foot, near the ankle and in the shoulders that help labor along...

My mom was rubbing them the weekend before my induction...at the very least, it felt good!

Good luck mama!  I am sending you loads of labor dust!  Cannot wait to meet W&D!

  • Relax and spend QT with the hubster.

I've been doing A LOT of that lately and it really helps me to feel more ready for baby's arrival.  Plus, when's the next time I'll have a chance to kick back at the beach solo, reading trashy novels?

    Enjoy!

  • Make sure Ben has a bag packed too, so he doesn't have to leave you to go home for anything.

    SLEEP.SLEEP.SLEEP.

Enjoy alone time with Ben. :)

    So excited for you!

Ha! I've already given Ben my wishlist for after delivery. I want a big fat hamburger, a large serve of french fries and a glazed doughnut (which is weird because I don't even really like doughnuts, but for some reason I'm obsessed with them right now).

  • I had accucpunctre the Friday before Elyse was born (I went into labour on Sunday).  I'm not sure if it worked, but I'd do it again next time because I had such a good labour and delivery.

    I'd highly recommend sleep too!

Good luck!  I'm excited to see pics of the little pirates!

  • Give your furbabies a LOT of love. Spend quality time with your hubs.. It will be your last "alone" time with him (even when you find a sitter or go out to do things alone with him the babies will be on your mind-- at least for awhile). Do things that will be difficult to do once they arrive... Like see a movie, eat peacefully at a nice restaurant...SLEEP!! Good luck! Can't wait to see pics of the boys in their gorgeous nursery :)

you know what? my last meal was 6pm on Nov 11 and A was not born until 5:42pm on the 12th...the entire time during L&D I kept asking "so I can eat as soon as this is over?!" LOL

i was starving by the end. and they kept reassuring me that I could eat soon. well, whenever I wasn't focusing on the pain, I was focused on eating a big fat juicy cheeseburger after delivery!! LOL

what i didn't know was that they don't let you eat solid food after a c/s until have you passed gas Surprise all i got that first night was some chicken broth around 11pm even though i was recovered from the c/s (though drowsy and tired) by 6pm.  and by day 3 I still hadn't passed any gas Tongue Tied and I think the nurse felt bad for me and offered me solid food anyway.

OMG I'd have died. I would be begging DH to smuggle in food for me lol. Is the passing gas just to make sure your digestive system is working before they start shoveling food down there?

you know... i never thought to ask why LOL but i just asked brent and he said that if the bowels are not moving things along like they should (peristalsis) then introducing food can cause necrotizing enterocolitis... it's normal for motility to be stalled after intra-abdominal sx, but i guess how quickly it comes back varies... so, maybe not a good idea to smuggle food in LOL i was on a chicken broth and jello diet in the interim.  good thing i like jello! :)

Mmmm...jello.......it's been AGES since I had jello! Now I want some. Stick out tongue

  • Sounds like you are set to go.  I love the fact that you have frozen meals up to a week and a half.  That's what I wished I did.

Another tip. Try not to have an army of people over.  If they want to come over, tell them to bring food.  And space out the visits.  That was my downfall.  We tried to do everything and it's impossible.  I should have been resting, but instead entertaining DH friends wives/so when the boys were having a cigar.  So I made the worst hamburgers and fries ever.  I was so fed up. My milk had just come in and I was exhausted.

Oh, and maybe have them over for a snack/lunch too.  Do NOT do DINNER.  I may sound a bit crusty about this, but it wrecked me and I was so upset when they wouldn't leave and I had to feed Ben upstairs by myself.  Some people don't get it.   Finally got DH to ask them to leave since it was well past 10pm!!

And of course, sleep is good!  Get lots of naps in too.  :)
