These are pictures of our living room and kitchen that we'll be moving into in 2 months.  I need decor help especially witht he curtain situation.  I know we don't need them - but I think they really help to finish a room.  The wood blinds come included - and this is a rental - so I can't make any major changes.... Here are my questions:

1.  Would you hang them above the squared windows over the windows with the blinds?  Or between the two?
2.  I'm also considering just getting the fabric hung between the windows - not having them actually wide enough to extend over the window.  I know I've seen that, but I can't seem to find any good example pictures - and I'm not sure how it would look in 'real life'.  Good idea? Dumb? Bonus points if you can find a picture to support this idea.
3.  Curtains are supposed to be floor length, right?  Can you tell I've never bought curtains????
4.  Our kitchen.  I would like to add extra seating by getting a barstool or two, but I'm wondering if that lip on the high bar is too small to have a bar stool look right there??  Thoughts?  Also, how high would you estimate that bar to be - so I can look at bar stools that are appropriately scaled.

Thanks for any help you can offer.

Re: xp: decor help needed.

  • Let it be known I am not an interior designer.  But for what it's worth....  I don't think I would do full curtains in that living room.  It is really bright and I think that makes the space look bigger, IMO.  We have big windows in our apartment living room right now and all I have are valance curtains similar to these below for color purposes but not hiding my windows.  And I think in your situation if I was going to use those I would put it on the big windows and not the little ones because I think those are neat and should stand out.

If you were set on getting curtains then I would do something similar to this:

And use curtains that are thin, sheer like material.  Again, I wouldn't cover up the square windows for this either.

I'm guessing the bar is as high as mine and we have 30' high bar stools.  Hope my unprofessional opinion helps!  :-)

and shaw - of course I appreciate your help!

  • I replied on the babies board. :)
  • I like the panels!  I like that it gives some style to the room but still gives you the big open feeling with those great windows!

  • Love the panels... They give definition with out excess. And you can add some fun color to the mix too.
