Churches in Raleigh area

DH and I are fairly new to the (north) Raleigh area and are in search of a church.  We have been trying over the last couple of months to find a home church, but haven't had a lot of success.  DH was raised Catholic and I was raised in a non-denominational Christian church and we are both willing to go to either or, as long as the pastor has a strong message.  We would prefer to go somewhere that isn't "too" contemporary.  I just feel that so many churches are trying to act like they aren't really churches nowadays with the contemporary music and way casual dress, so we would prefer something a little more traditional.  If anyone has any suggestions I would really appreciate it.  We plan on going to Crossroads Fellowship tomorrow for Easter, but would like to find somewhere else in the future.  Thanks ladies!

  • Beacon Baptist on Trawick road
  • We tried out Providence Baptist on Glenwood when we first moved here.  The services that we tried out were pretty traditional.  We go to Hope Community Church, but it is very contemporary and very casual and that is part of the reason that we love it.  Traditional is not for us.

  • http://www.stfrancisraleigh.org/friars - I don't attend there but I had some interaction with their members and they were friendly, the facility is expanding and they seem to have good programming.

JennaNAaron: I don't usually post on this board, but sometimes lurk.  We also go to Hope Community Church.  We absolutely LOVE it there!

Ive been going here since I was 5 yrs old and am still in love with the church and the friars and how things are run  here. It is a big church but its not old fashion or too contemporary in my opinion. if u have any questions about it let me know. the franciscan friars are oen of the more liberal groups of catholic priests.

DH was raised Catholic and I was raised Presbyterian, so we are trying to find a good fit.  Other Catholic churches were too strict and conservative for our beliefs (pro-choice, GLBT friendly, etc.).  I checked out their website and was pleasantly surprised to see that GLBT were welcomed.  Do you know the church's stance on this?  Do they accept this lifestyle?  Or just accept the people as God's children who sin like everyone else?  Or something else?  Just curious!

I'm not in the area but I wanted to say that this reflects our views! My major disappointment is the number of other "young" couples who feel this way and are in more traditional churches- in every church we've been to, in the last 5 years, we've been the youngest by at least 10 years.

This is exactly how we feel as well!  Maybe we should all band together and start our own church!

  • There ya go...we SHOULD start our own church!  Haha it has been really tough to find somewhere that doesn't have a rock concert to start the service and a pastor who wears something other than jeans!  I am totally fine with being a more casual church, but again...the most important thing to us is the message we get from the sermon, not all the "fluff" beforehand!  Thanks so much for all the suggestions!
