Rock n' Roll

7.2 mag earthquake just hit Baja California. We're feeling it here in San Diego! (Felt the main quake and still getting aftershocks).

You can tell I'm a SoCal girl because, when I felt the shaking, I yelled at my husband to stop trying to wake me up from my nap. It took a good 20 seconds before I figured out it wasn't him, and it wasn't our noisy stupid elephants of upstairs neighbors, but it was an earthquake. So, I pulled myself out of bed, stood in the doorway until it stopped, and then crawled back under the covers.

How was your Sunday afternoon?

Re: Rock n' Roll

  • I felt it too! (as you may have noticed from my Facebook status).  But I'm further north so it wasn't as strong here.  I just started feeling really nauseous and C said "I think we're having an earthquake."  I looked up and sure enough the blinds were swinging.  When they're not dangerous, they're exciting!
  • I don't know that I could get used to earthquakes like that. I would probably still be freaking out.Our afternoon/day was ackward. We agreed to spend it with MIL but ended up at SFIL's sister's apt. It was uncomfortable to say the least. We didn't know anyone except MIL & SFIL, nobody could give us clear directions, MIL started by coming out to the parking lot to give us our belated b-day gifts & insisted we open them on the spot but could not take them inside or leave them in the car. This probably wouldn't have irritated me so much if she wouldn't have whipped my car door open and started screaming at me while I was on the phone with my family. Food was ok but we barely finished eating and everyone was rushed out to go home.MIL & SFIL came over to check out the new place and she threw a fit because everything we have for the baby so far is new. I insist that everything that will hold our child be new (ie crib, stroller, carseat & swing) out of safety concerns. All we have is the crib and swing so both are new. They finally left & we called BSC grandma who continued to creep me out and piss me off at the same time. Since I missed BIL's wedding to be with my sister & nephew, his family apparenlty feels I owe them any info they want to know about the situation. I appreciate their concern but BSC grandma is upset because we have not sent pics of my nephew. She has never met my family! And why does she need to go around town with pics of a child she doesn't know? I am very proud of my nephews but I am also very protective of them and do not want a bunch of strangers having pics of him, all of his stats, and the condition of my sister's reproductive areas. Then she starts asking how much weight I've put on (not "does she have a bump?" But more like "how big is her @ss?") What really set her off is that we are baptizing our child. Not only that, but it is in the church FIL's family attends. We don't criticize her for her religious practices, so there is no reason to criticize us for practicing the religion we were raised to believe.Wow. This got really long. I've been up for about 2 hours now and can't sleep so hopefully I can get some rest or find something to do that won't wake up DH. Good Night!

  • An earthquake would freak me out!

Lucky, sorry about the family drama!

Our afternoon was nice. DH had to work in the morning (performed at a church), so I slept in. When he finally got home, he took a very long nap (he's sick and worked all Friday and Saturday).  I woke him up around 7 to start the steaks and some friends came over and had dinner with us.  Low key. Relaxing. Very nice end to the weekend.

We have so much time, and so little to do! Strike that, reverse it.

  • Lucky, I'm so sorry to hear about all that craziness :(

Lucky & Leigha, earthquakes aren't that bad when you've grown up with them. Now, tornados, blizzards, hurricanes...those TOTALLY freak me out. Give me an earthquake any day.

  • Lucky, sorry about all the family drama. That would drive me nutty.

SBS, glad the earthquake was just some shaking and nothing more. I more than likely would have thought it was my husband waking me up, too.

My Sunday afternoon was kind of hectic. We left about noon for J's grandparents. Then we went to my parents at about 5, and didn't leave till about 9:30. Then J wanted to stop at his friends, so we went there till about 12:30. I was so tired by the time we got home. . .

  • I saw that on the news!  We've had teeny tiny earthquakes here but I can't imagine a 7.2 one!

Sunday was good...we went to church with my mom...then I had a photo shoot with a little Welsh Corgi that is dying of lymphatic cancer Crying - it was so hard, but very rewarding.  Then we went out to the lake house to eat dinner with H's family.  It was an absolutely beautiful day here yesterday, though, and it's supposed to get all the way up to 88-90 today!  I love it!

  • SBS & Lark-Wow about the earthquake. I think I would of freaked but we really don't get those here. I'm glad you ladies are all right and were not affected

lucky-sorry about all the family drama, geez! FWIW, I feel the same way about anything that holds the baby needs to be new.

My Sunday was nice and relaxing. Spent it at my mom's and then visited with DH's family later that evening.

  • Yikes that earthquake would have freaked me out... I saw it on the news this morning.  Glad it wasnt anything serious for you guys.

We had DH's family over for Easter yesterday... nothing too exciting but the weather was great so we were able to have lunch outside, grill out, etc.

  • We spent Sunday afternoon at the garden center.  I picked up veggies and herbs to put in the garden plot I'm inheriting at our new house, AND I convinced DH to let me buy the poisonous bush I've been loving for a few weeks.  He let me get it with the caveat that I confine it to one corner of the yard and not let it reseed.  We'll see what happens :)
  • We played with the puppy all weekend, i visited my dad in the hospital, and got a grill that I am psyched to try out in this beautiful weather! Also had some friends over to watch the Yankees opening game last night, and once again proved that I still am too easily distracted to get into baseball...
