Can we talk GPS units again?

I have a Garmin Nuvi and I am very happy with it.  My MIL who is very technologically challenged (she has trouble working her garage door opener!) is looking for a GPS.  So I am looking for one that is as fool proof as can be with big wording.  We were looking at my BIL's TomTom and it seems to be a bit more obvious than my Garmin.  Then this morning I see a deal on Amazon for a TomTom EASE for $85, BUT there are some bad reviews that their customer service is horrible.  My MIL has troubles with everything, I mean EVERYTHING and spends a lot of time talking to customer service for each thing she buys.  Does anyone have a TomTom EASE, or used TomTom's customer service?  Or have GPS suggestions in general??

Re: Can we talk GPS units again?

  • I have a Garmin, but I bought both my dad and sister TomToms for Christmas the last couple of years, and they haven't had any problems with them where they had to call customer service.  I think the TomToms are a bit more "idiot-proof" than the Garmin, but both are pretty easy to use.  There's a clearly labeled icon for you to enter an address, and then off you go!

  • We have a TomTom, but have had it for years now and I couldn't tell you what model it is. Anytime we've had any problems the customer service line has been nothing but helpful.

  • I don't really have suggestions, because I have really only used my Garmin.  However, I would probably say one that has very simple touch-screen tools.  Also, when you give it to her, definitely set it up/configure it.  Like so it automatically goes to her house address to start, or maybe so some of her favorite addresses are in it so she can practice using it when she goes somewhere she knows (like the store) before going somewhere unfamiliar.
