Hola Chicas! Got back last night from my mission trip to Nicaragua. It was such a great trip. Still have to get caught up on all the Novembie news from last week but just wanted to say hi and share some about my trip.
We started building a house for a single mother and her two children, one is a teenage boy and the other is an adult girl but she suffers from brain lesions and is basically like a child. To look at the lady you would think she is 60 yrs old but I am guessing she is actually in her late 40's or early 50's based on her son's age. We didn't get anywhere near finished on the house but another group is there this week and will get it finished up. It is basically a 12 x 12 cement block box. Certainly not fancy with no indoor plumbing or electricity but at it gives her family a good roof, windows for venilation and a concrete floor instead of a dirt floor. Her current house is a rusty tin shack with no windows, a dirt floor and more holes than you can count. For her it will be like winning the lottery.
We did delivered bags of food to 55 families and were able to pray with them. Some had medical needs that we were able to get covered to help out the families.
We took 25 kids from an orphanage home in the community we worked at to the movies. The younger kids got to watch How to Train A Dragon (or something like that) and the older kids got to see The Blind Side. Afterwards we went back to the orphanage and had a nice dinner and a pinata for the kids and then just spent time playing with the kids.
One of the biggest blessings I received was finding out that a girl I've know and helped out for the last nine years named her baby after my DH. She is 19 and just had a baby in December. It is a sad situation but I was happy to see that the baby seems to be in good health and she is adjusting to motherhood and bonding with the baby. I was able to talk to her a lot about making sure she did everything she could to provide a better life for her baby and making him the most important thing in her life....she doesn't have great examples of that with her family situation. From a young age she was pretty much had to fend for herself and her brother and sisters.
Guess if you got this far all I can say is muchas gracias!
PS love all the siggie flower pictures...when I left last week there wasn't too much green but when I got back it is like Spring exploded. Can't wait to see my Magnolia tree and the flowers in my backyard...it was dark when I got home last night.
