Poll: What hours do you work?
On a typical day/week and what do you do?
I'm just curious. I'm in business development doing M&A work. I'm overly jealous of DH's work schedule because he works from 8 to 4:30 everyday - that's it. DH works in sales for an electrical distribution company. I normally get to work between 7:30 - 8:30 and am here until at least 5 but most likely 6 everyday. And I take work home with me at least a couple days a week.
Most of our friends have hours more like he does and so I contend that my job just sucks but I'm curious.
Re: Poll: What hours do you work?
8:30 to 5
DH works 9:30pm to 7:30am.

I work for a really small CPA Firm. We have 2 partners (FIL) and only one works in the office full time. The other works at his home office. We have a bookkeeper that works mornings, otherwise it's just me and FIL. I pretty much do a little of everything. I handle the phones, greet clients, do light bookkeeping, manage our bills/invoices, make lunch for FIL/myself, and this year am doing individual tax returns. I work from 9-5 most days. Fridays I tend to leave by 4.
I also have the freedom to take care of work/personal errands. I am going to take classes so I can do more tax related things. I have a great boss/FIL.

I work 9am-6pm M-Th and 9-4pm on Friday.
M works 8-5. I hate my schedule because it also included an hour commute.
So many people have suggested this once they heard Best Buy was doing it. It wouldn't work in my particular area but there are many jealous people at Target.
I have a very flexible work schedule. 8 - 5 is the norm but I usually work 8:30 - 5:30 because my commute is longer than most of my coworkers. We run personal errands all the time and have most of our meetings in one of the 6 nearby coffee places. (3 starbucks within a block!)
I pretty much make my own schedule...but I typically try to stick with 8-4. Some days I work longer which means I leave earlier on other days. Sometimes I do work at home, sometimes not. Just depends on my mood, how many kids I have scheduled in a day, and how nice outside it is!! But I always do at least 40 hrs in a week.
DH works from home and typically tries to be done by the time I'm home. It has been nice!
I work 8-5, M-F with a 1 hour lunch break. I never work weekends and never take work home with me. Occassionally I'll have to fly out of town for the day, but I always fly home same day. Those days are obviously longer than 8 hours, but they're pretty rare.
Mike is military so his schedule is always changing. Right now he's a paid student. His day goes from 6:30am - 7:30pm plus an additional 3-4 hours of study EVERY night and 12+ hours of study each day on the weekends. He's miserable!

Technically, my hours are 8-5 M-F, but I typically get to work between 8:30 and 9 and work until somewhere between 5 and 5:30. I also take work home maybe 2 evenings/wk on average and work on weekends if I need to get something done. DH works 8:30-5 M-F, but has to work one Saturday 8:30-5 every 6 weeks and one Tuesday until 9 pm every 6 weeks. He gets comp time for the extra hours though.
I don't think my schedule counts since I'm in school and not currently working. I have class on Monday & Wednesday from 10am - 11:20am. I have lab on Monday afternoons from 3pm-5:50pm. I have a night class of Tuesday from 6pm - 9pm.
DH is a city employee and works 8:30 - 5:15 with an hour lunch. His schedule is pretty flexible because of the type of job he does.
I am kind of like this. I don't work for Best Buy, but I work out of my house all day everyday. I can go to the office if I want...but it is a 3 hour drive now, so I work from home everyday.
That being said, I basically wake up between 7:30-8am and immediately logon to my laptop and start working. I eat breakfast in front of my computer...and I eat lunch in front of my computer most of the time.
I generally end my day sometime between 4:30-5pm. Some days I may stay on longer or leave earlier. I tend to check email on my iPhone and will logon in the evening if I need to respond to something urgent (but that is rare). All of my meetings are conference calls. I generally go into the office about once every couple of years and that is just to upgrade my laptop.
I just need to get in my 40 hrs per week. Typically that is in five 8 hr days. If I have a big field project I've been known to do four 10s or take the OT. Due to my pay rate, I don't get time and a half, just get straight time...but its better than nothing...
D is military and currently underway. When he was home his work schedule was all over the map. Sometimes he'd be working 7-3, sometimes 430am-530pm...and then sometimes he'd be on rotating shifts (a week of days, week of second, week of mids, rinse and repeat). Anytime he wasn't on shiftwork he also had duty days (he'd have to stay overnight on the ship those nights and stand watch at ungodly hours...and then work the next day). Duty was thrown in there every 3-6th day. He doesn't get OT.

~All AL'ers welcome~
Here's what my schedule looks like for time spent "at work" (in a classroom, holding office hours, or in the tutoring center):
Mondays - 8:00 a.m. - 1:00 p.m; 2:00 - 5:00 p.m.
Tuesdays - 8:00 a.m. - 9:30 a.m.; 11:30 a.m. - 3:30 p.m.
Wednesdays - 8:00 a.m. - 1:00 p.m.; 2:00 - 5:00 p.m.
Thursdays - 8:00 a.m. - 9:30 a.m.
Fridays - 10:00 a.m. - Noon
That doesn't include commute time. On top of that, I would say I spend a minimum of 3 hours a day at home lesson planning, answering student e-mails or posts, and/or grading. If I get a big assignment back from my students that week (like an essay), that number easily goes up to 5 or 6 hours.
On top of that, I have two graduate seminars which are Monday and Wednesday from 5:30-8:30 p.m. (+ homework, + thesis writing), and a training course that takes roughly 15-20 hours per week (but that is online).
I work the luxurious hours of 5am - 5pm and always bring work home that keeps me busy for an additional 2-3 hours a night. So 75hrs/wk most weeks?
I also work every third weekend (two 8 hour shifts). So every 2 weeks I go for 12 days straight which brings it closer to 80ish hours a week.

I work 8a-5.30/6p monday-wednesday, 8a-12/1p on thursday and 8a-2-3p friday, I am a nurse in an OB/GYN's office and our office closes at 4p m-th, and noon on fridays, but we have tons of call backs to take care of so my afternoon hours all depend on when i finish.
David works from home, he typically gets back from the gym and starts work at 8.30-9a and finishes up anywhere from 4-6p... David does web/graphic design from home so his schedule is very flexible... On thursdays and fridays when i come home early david usually quits work for the day.. then again occasionally he will work of stuff at 10-11 at night and some weekends..
