I think we're finally DONE shopping.
We're replacing our '04 Honda Pilot AND our '03 Ford Escape with a 2010 or 2011 Ford Taurus "Limited" AWD - to get better gas mileage while still having the all wheel drive for the MN winters and long trips to Chicago. (We still have the '05 Yukon XL we inherited from my Dad.)
We've been to the car show, and a bunch of dealers (hundai, 2 cadallic, 2 ford, honda, acura, GM, Audi, and a few used lots along the way) and DH is finally settled.
DH picked the do-dads that he wants (I'm fine with cloth seats, a radio, AC, and power windows) but DH has higher standards than I do. Now, don't get me wrong - I like the "pimped out" cars - but I don't feel that all that stuff is necessary or worth the extra $10k to get. I am more concerned with how I fit my long torso and wide shoulders comfortably in the car without smacking my head every time I get in (I've been spoiled with head-room in SUVs for so long). For what DH wants - it is actually the same price to get a new taurus as it is to get a used car from a "high-end" maker...so we're going new.
So, now we have a dealer trying to locate a specific trim level with a specific color and a moon roof - but NO nav system. If he can't find a 2010, then we wait till Summer and get an early release 2011.
Then...in 2013 or so, I get to pick out the next SUV! yay!

Re: Car Shopping...Ugh...BUT...
Yay! Congrats on the new car!! The taurus is AWESOME and I'm super jealous :-).
We had to buy one recently also - a 2010 Ford Focus. We loved the Taurus but since we were already going to be upside down, we went cheaper. Between the deal Ford had in March plus DH's discount from work, it was better for us to go new as well. We figured by going new we had the car covered, and paid extra to extend the warranty coverage, so it'll be covered for at least another year or so after it's paid off. The best part was our payment only went up $50ish, but since our rent went down $60, it was no biggie.
Sorry for jacking your post - just got really excited since I hadn't mentioned it on here yet.
Congrats on the new car!! Hope they find exactly what you want soon.
YAY! I just had this convo the other day with a coworker that I could never go back to a car after having an SUV for so long.
Is this going to be your mommy ride? Or is this daddy's ride?
I will continue driving the "tank" and DH will drive the Taurus. If I end up getting a job farther from home than DH's we'd switch to optimize mileage.

I'm not really into "pimped out" rides either . . . But then again my favorite car was a 1990 civic whose windshield wipers went off whenever I went over a bump so I guess I have low standards.
Best of luck with the shopping!
