I tried the DC last night for the first time. It was a struggle to fit it in. I tried in the shower, I squatted, sat down, was out of the shower. Finally, it went in and I believe it went in properly. I wore it for an hour and then decided to take it out.
OMG! I was panicking because I wasn't able to grab on to it. I finally relaxed, squatted and pushed. This helped a lot and it finally came out.
I was brave enough to try it again. I trimmed the stem and reinserted it. So, this time I left it in for about two hours. But, it didn't feel 100% right. I could tell that it was completely open inside, but it felt like it was too low. I took it out and decided to try again this morning.
No luck. I just couldn't get it to go in AT ALL this morning. I was really bummed. I tried for about 15 minutes. And at the end, I was really hurting and irritated.
I really want to love it and use it regularly. Did anyone else have a hard time with it when they first started? Do I have a small vagina or something? I couldn't exactly maneuver it properly while it was inside of me. Turning it 180 degrees was impossible. Also, I was afraid of shoving it in to far in.
Should I try a Moon Cup or another brand? I really like the idea of a cup, but I think I need something smaller and or softer.
Thoughts????
Re: My first experience with Diva Cup
I'd try some lube until you get the hang of it.
You did get the smaller size, right? There are two sizes - one for women with kids OR who are over 30, and a smaller one. I'm 30 and the smaller one is just fine for me.
And the only way it'll work is if it's pretty high up - because of your cervix, there's no way it's going to get stuck up there or go too far. If you insert it, stand up, and can feel it inside you, it's too low.
And how are you inserting it? You need to fold it in half like a taco, and then insert it, and it'll open once it's in the right location (kind of high up). Try not to let it open too low, or else you'll never get it in the right spot.
It just takes some practice! Once you get it figured out, it'll take no more thought at all and you'll love it.
It might help to stop worrying about losing it or putting it in too far--it can't go anywhere. Seems like it would be hard to relax if you're worrying about it getting away from you. It can't--there's nowhere for it go.
I've been using it for a few years, and I still have days where it takes forever to get the damn thing to open. I usually insert while squatting; if it won't open right up, I tug a bit on the bottom. If that doesn't work, I stand up and then squat down again--that often does the trick.
Thanks for the feedback! I was a little freaked out when I wasn't able to get it out the first time.
I have the Diva Cup 2. I'm 33, but don't have any children.
I went ahead and bought the Mooncup. I heard it's a little softer and shorter and easier to unfold.
I'll keep trying with the Diva Cup in the meanwhile.
I had a hard time inserting it, too, until I tried a different fold. I had the same problems you did, especially the part about turning it 180 degrees (and the one time I did manage to turn it, it still didn't open).
I tried the "punch down" fold- I found directions online somewhere, I'll try to find where. Basically instead of making a U shape with it, you push the rim deep into the cup itself until you have a smaller point to insert. It inserts much easier, and pops open on it's own.
Thank you for posting this! I will look now for the punch down fold.
